Simple Rustic “Love” Embroidery With Gingham

Embroidered Country style Love pictureThere is something about this little rustic country-style "love" embroidery that is so sweet, and yet made with minimal effort, so of course I just had to share it with you. I think this would make a perfect new baby gift, or look great as part of the decor at a country-style wedding. And of course it would be great anytime to spread the love!

While this exact little work of art looked perfect in the all wood Adirondack Victorian cabin where we had the pleasure of spending four days and nights, this might not work for everyone. Speaking of everyone, that would include me as well, since our home is more Morocco meets Scandinavia, and gingham might look a bit out of place. But not to worry, one can certainly use this idea, just do keep the rustic nature of it, namely the simple embroidery done on muslin or linen, the antique style frame hung with a scrap of fabric, the little buttons……

I didn't make this, but if I were to make something similar this is how I would do it……..let's get started!

Embroidery simple Love fabric collage

You'll Need:

  • a fun frame
  • a piece of gingham several inches wider and longer than frame opening, plus strip for hanging
  • a piece of linen, or muslin, or something tea-died little scrap of not too fine fabric
  • four little matching buttons
  • brown embroidery thread and needle
  • a disappearing ink pen or very light pencil
  • tan string or thread for attaching buttons
  • 2 pieces of cardboard to fit into frame opening from back, or instead of a second piece of cardboard brown paper to cover frame from back.

How To:

  1. Cut cardboard to fit into frame from back. Wrap fabric neatly around frame.
  2. Write the word love on the piece of fabric that you have cut to size, and embroider the word. You can then make a decorative embroidered border around the piece on which you've embroidered "love", and glue it to the gingham wrapped cardboard, or sew the "love" panel to the gingham fabric and then wrap it around the cardboard.
  3. You can actually sew the buttons on, or I'd just tie the string through the buttons and then glue the buttons to the fabric.
  4. Insert art into frame and cover back of frame with another piece of cardboard or with framer's paper and tape.
  5. Sweet right?
