A Peek In My Sketchbook: Pomegranate Ink Drawing With Cross Hatching
If you are having a hard time fitting an art practice of some kind into your busy schedule, a smallish sketchbook, might just be THE thing! After six months of a consistent sketchbook/art journal practice I am just thrilled by the concept in general, and have gotten over my fear of making mistakes or entries that aren’t up to snuff in my journal, and I am here to encourage you to give it a try. There is just something about creating in a journal that is not restricting as I always thought, but rather freeing, and best of all, you don’t have to figure out what to do with that…

A Peek In My Sketchbook: Simple Glass Vases With Sprigs Doodle
It is true, with the week long Jewish holiday of Succot coming up this Friday night, now is the time get to work on the Succah decorations! Truthfully, the little game going on in my head right now is whether to use existing decorations as much as possible (some of which haven’t seen the succah for a few good years) or invest precious time in creating new decorations? As I type this I am realizing that maybe it is better to put my time into my sketchbook and my developing art practice, rather than new succah decorations, other than some new things to fill in the holes, as after all,…

A Mixed Media Rooster Painting For Yom Kippur!
Tonight we usher in the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which includes a mandatory 25 hour fast for all those healthy and over the age of bar/bat mitzvah, and in my case a day spent in the synagogue with our community, which is the only place I’d want to be on this day of atonement. Since my kids are also in synagogue with me and my husband, I no longer have to worry about them! Mothers with young kids try to come to synagogue for the evening service, which is very beautiful, and for the last service at the end of the day when the shofar is sounded and the…

Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday
Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! I am sneaking this party in just before the very important Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which starts on Sunday night. The holiday is also a major fast, meaning a fast of 25 hours, and mandatory for all those over the age of 12/13 and healthy. In Israel it is the day of the year with the least traffic, as even those who may not observe Shabbat, do observe Yom Kippur! In our community the prayer service is literally all day, so you’ll find me, sitting with my daughter in the synagogue from around 7am until around 7:30pm.…

A Colorful Mixed Media Vase Of Flowers Painted In My Sketchbook!
I used to have a fear of creating in my sketchbook, and now suddenly I am just as happy as can be creating in a large 8 1/2 x 11″ book, and being possibly more brave since I am telling a story about my creative journey within the pages. Every good story has its ups and downs as should every creative journey! And funny enough, since the most recent vase of flowers painting is snug in my journal, I don’t have to worry about what to do with it! Truthfully I am considering printing a copy to hang in the succah, wouldn’t that be fun, as well as a step…

Oleander In Bloom In Israel
Right about now I should be working on Succah decorations (truthfully I have enough in boxes in the attic for a few succahs, as you can imagine….) but instead I’ve been painting in my art journal and looking at some of my own photos for inspiration. Up the hill from my house and within our cobblestone paved “old city” sits this gated entrance, complete with a lovely oleander bush and a palm, that is so very picturesque and begging to be painted! Since I shared with you my oleander sketch earlier this week, I thought I would share photos of this special little spot, either as inspiration to plant some…
