Plastic Berry Baskets Woven With T-Shirt Yarn
We eat lots of mushrooms, and I just can’t resist saving those plastic baskets! The last bunch I sent off to a nursery school, and now I have a few more that need a creative solution. So dear readers, introducing a fun summer recycling craft that looks amazing and could be used to hold little treasures: woven plastic berry baskets, or maybe you’d prefer to call them embroidered plastic baskets. or plastic basket needlepoint with t-shirt yarn? This is actually the third plastic basket craft I’m sharing with you, the first was a crocheted t-shirt yarn berry basket, the second was a simple t-shirt yarn woven berry basket, and now,…

DIY Cactus Balloons For Shavuos Or Anytime!
Summer is almost here which means warm weather, longer days and extra family time. Summer also brings many celebrations, such as the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, and or course weddings and birthdays. If you’re looking for a unique theme for your summer celebration, try using cacti as a motif! The holiday of Shavuot is celebrated by decorating our homes and synagogues with greenery and flowers, so I say flowering cacti are perfect! Cacti are cute, and very easy to incorporate into a party—they can be used as decor, party favors and even included in food or drinks (like a prickly pear lemonade). The most commonly found cactus in Israel is…

Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday!
Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! With Lag B’Omer and extremely hot weather behind us, it is now time to start thinking about the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, in which we celebrate the giving of the Torah. The great news is that the Torah was given on Mt. Sinai which was lush and filled with flowers, so anything flower or plant related is fair game. I have a flower garland in mind, but maybe it means it is time to get back into my flower paintings and just paint some huge flowers for the holiday, Yes, I like that idea, now lets see if…

A Lunar Corona Was Seen Over Northern Israel Last Friday Night!
Last Friday night after we finished our shabbos meal, my daughter went to a neighbor’s house to visit a friend for a few minutes, and suddenly I hear her calling “Mommy, come quickly, you have to see this!.” I went outside, looked up and saw the most beautiful moon even, a moon encircled by what looked ilke a double rainbow! Truly amazing and not something I’ve ever seen, so I saw that other neighbors were still sitting at their shabbos table, and half barged in to tell them to take a look as well. I startled the mother just a bit, as no one expects a neighbor to run it…

Wishing You A Wonderful Lag B’Omer!
The festive holiday of Lag B’Omer is coming to an end here in Israel, but there are many more hours left of the holiday around the world, so wishing you a very happy Lag B’Omer! For the first time in a very long time I actually went with my teenage daughter to Meron, the burial site of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, last night at around midnight. Her friends chose to go with other friends, so I decided to be a good mother and offer to go with her, and off we went, yawn. Generally we go during the day, when it is very hot, and this year with very hot…

Fringed Woven Placemat IKEA Hack With T-Shirt Yarn
I love t-shirt yarn, and have been thinking about using it for macrame and embroidery, not just crocheting! Industrial-waste t-shirt yarn also supports eco consciousness, as it is made from odds and ends of fabric left after the pieces for making clothing is cut from the yardage. What I found after making these fringed and embroidered placemats/wall hangings is that t-shirt yarn is a great way to add color to a project that might have called for rope of some kind, and it works great for fringe, tassels (see my t-shirt yarn tassels) and more. So if you’re looking for a simple and stylish summer project, this is it! These…
