Embroidering With T-Shirt Yarn!
Ever thought about embroidering with t-shirt yarn? I am always looking for ways to do intricate yet lovely crafts in a quicker way, so embroidery with t-shirt yarn is certainly one way to do that, right? With ethnic wall hangings and baskets still popular in the home decor arena, now is the perfect time to make some fun summer accessories for your home, with some t-shirt yarn and some woven placemats or baskets. I actually made the example here as a wall hanging, though it has not yet made it to the wall, it is propped up on a bedside table under a window for now, and maybe forever until…

Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday!
Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! This week we are still in mourning on the Jewish calendar, but Wednesday night we usher in the very joyful holiday of Lag B’Omer, which, depending on your custom, either ends the mourning period, or is a break in the mourning period, and either way is a day when 3 year olds boys have a celebratory first hair cut, bonfires are lit, and music is played. We live in Lag B’Omer central, as this day is also the day in which the great Rebbi Shimon Bar Yochai left this world, and so on this day we celebrate his…

Blessing Of The Kohanim At The Kotel During Passover
Attending the blessing by the Kohanim at the Kotel on the second day of chol hamoed Pesach was amazing, and a first for our family. We were fortunate enough to have an invitation to a rooftop balcony to enjoy the event way above the crowds, and it was indeed very special! It is true that Kohanim bless their community every Shabbat and holiday in the Beit Knesset, but in this case there are so many Kohanim, that the likely hood of having at least one with a direct line to the original Kohanim from the Biat HaMikdash, The Holy Temple, is quite great. And truly, seeing all these people gathered…

Where Is Nachum Ish Gamzu Buried?
Where is Nachum Ish Gamzu buried, you may ask? Or more likely, who is Nachum Ish Gamzu? Or what language is that anyway? Well dear readers, let me tell you, Nachum Ish Gamzu, or more correctly, Rebbe Nachum Ish Gamzu was a Tanna, a rabbinic sages whose views are recorded in the Mishnah, from approximately 10-220 CE! Okay that is seriously a long time ago, and yet he was such an important figure that we are still talking about him and visiting his gravesite! One of the things for which Rebbe Nachum Ish Gamzu is known is that he was the teacher of the even more well know Rebbe Akiva!…

Key Shaped Challah
The Ashkenazic Jewish custom of making key shaped bread, or rather challah, (called schlissel challah) for the first shabbos after Passover is something I love to do, though this year on that particular shabbos we were in the Ukraine, so no key shaped challahs…….but then again, since it is a symbolic custom rather than a Jewish Law I figured I’d bake those key shaped challahs the very first time we made challahs at home, which was last Friday. And since my camera battery charger is broken and the replacement has yet to arrive my daughter quickly took some photos to share with you. At this point you may just want…

Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday!
Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! We are now finally back home after an unplanned trip, followed by a planned trip, and I can’t wait to start making things, which is how I always feel after a major holiday. We are now in the Jewish month of Iyar, which means that the festive holiday of Lag B’Omer is just around the corner, and while we are currently in a period of mourning on the Jewish calendar (no music, weddings, haircuts) one can certainly anticipate the upcoming holiday with some fun crafts! Additionally Spring is a wonderful time to get outdoors, and start thinking of…
