Negative Shape Flower Painting Exercise In My Sketchbook
Negative shape painting is a great art technique that every crafter out to have up their sleeve, as it is great for making art and illustrations of all kinds, and especially wonderful when introduced to kids! This technique would be perfect for making art for the Succah, (think pomegranates, fig leaves, apples, olive branches etc.) since now is the time to gets those gears turning as far as succah decorations are concerned! I did this vibrant flower illustration/painting in my landscape sized art journal, right next to a little floral drawing study done with markers, as the paper in this sketchbook is very thick. Markers can be fun, but the…

A Peek In My Sketchbook: Floral Sketch With Colored Pencils
Today was the minor fast called the Fast of Gedaliah, which always takes place the day after Rosh HaShana, and whose timing is excellent after all those festive meals! While fasting and catching up on some computer work after 3 plus days of being unplugged, I came across a few photos of the oleander blooms in my container garden, and was overtaken by the need to draw the flowers, using the photo as reference, and so I did, as I am committed to keeping my art journal/sketchbook practice alive and well. Craft Schooling Sunday Will Resume Next Week
Thanks so much for stopping by, today is the second day of the Jewish New Year, Rosh HaShana, and we are unplugged and celebrating the holiday, so Craft Schooling Sunday is postponed until next week. And may you and yours have a year filled with good health, financial stability, blessings all around and time for creativity! See you next week, which will be during the period called "the ten days of repentence" leading up to Yom Kippur. I don't generally do much crafting for Yom Kippur, but four…

Wishing You A Shanah Tovah And A Sweet As Honey New Year!
Dear Readers, I had dreamed of taking photos of one of the pomegranate laden trees in the neighborhood in order to wish you a Shanah Tovah, a happy new year, but as is par for the course here at CJM central, we are going out town tonight, together with all the food I’ve cooked and baked, and all the food I will cook at our destination. Which means there is simply no time left other than to wish you a Shanah Tovah, and to share with you some photos of bee hives that I see on my evening walk. Rosh HaShana, the Jewish new year is all about honey, and…

Apple Cake Cards For Rosh HaShana, Or Someone’s Birthday, Or Both?
One of my sweet sons has a 17th birthday tomorrow, just two days shy of Rosh HaShana, and this year, unlike previous years when the men and boys travel out of town for the holiday leaving us women to bask in the freedom of just being women, ahhhh, but never mind, that is not happening this year, or so it seems, which means that for the first time in about ten years I have the chance to make a proper birthday party for my son on his actual birthday! Not all the family will have arrived back home from their various schools, but at least I can decorate! Just in…
