Hello Prague: Charming Signs In Old Town

Prague-Sign-Gift-Shop-Aqua-wallPrague is an amazing city, (see all of my posts so far here) chock full of visual inspiration everywhere you look, not to mention packed to the gills with the kind of souvenir shops that I drool over! I can’t wait to go back just to shop some more……Okay, but we are talking about charming signs, lest I digress, and I should mention that regardless of where our travels take us, I am always on the lookout for interesting graphics and especially cute store signs. Prague did not disappoint, I spotted a few really great ones, which I’m sharing with you here, and if you ever open your own business do think about the importance of great signage! Who can resist a gingerbread man sign, an ice cream cone sign or even a pretzel sign, just to mention a few!

Prague-Sign-Ice-Cream-ConeA gorgeous sign plus ice cream cone not far from the Prague Castle. Look at those colors and the buildings…..
Prague-Sign-Ice-Cream-ConeAs cute as can be, not far from Namesti Republiky, on a street we walked down everyday to get from our vacation rental to the Old Town Square.
Prague-Sign-Ice-Cream-ConeAnd here’s a look at the store front, complete with little biscuits over the door, precious!
Prague-Sign-Ice-Cream-ConeThe sign in Hebrew on the Burial Society building in the Jewish Quarter.
Prague-Sign-Ice-Cream-ConeA Danish bakery sign in the Jewish Quarter, and the bread in this bakery is Pas Yisroel, which means amazing hearty loaves of all kinds, and kosher on the highest level, so exciting especially since we are so used to just having to look at all the culinary delights in foreign cities without ever getting to actually eat anything, as Kosher food isn’t found everywhere, but it is found in Prague, all over the Jewish quarter!

Prague-Sign-Gift-Shop-Aqua-wallA kosher restuarant sign in the Jewish quarter. There are many kosher restuarants to choose from as Prague’s Jewish history and budget friendly everything makes it a popular destination for Israelis and Jews from all over the world.

A sign not far from the Prague Castle, love it!
Prague-Sign-Ice-Cream-ConeA wrought iron sign, in the Jewish Quarter, which is a replica of the wrought iron signs that hung over all Jewish businesses once, the hat in the middle of the Jewish star is the hat that Jews were forced to wear to distinguish them from the non-Jews.Prague-Sign-Ice-Cream-ConeA huge crocheted sign for a pre-school or day care center (not sure) in Vysehrad, where there is a really great ramparts walk with stunning views of the river, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, totally recommended, and I will share it with you in the near future.

Prague-Tredlnik-kosherAnd last but not least, the sign that likely made us the happiest campers of all! Yes it involves food, in this case a pastry called trdlenekt, which is used as an ice cream cone of sorts, and sold all over town for tourists, and whose fragrance drives you crazy. When we realized there was kosher trdlenekt to be had, wow what a treat!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my sampling of charming signs in Prague, maybe you’ll start to lift your head up a bit more on your next trip, hopefully in 2021!
