Tu B’Shevat Centerpiece From Recycled Cans And Sticks
Tu B'Shevat, the Jewish New Year for the trees is coming this Sunday night, so lets fill our homes with fruity decorations and crafts to honor this special day. For starters, how about this simple recycled can vase filled with bare branches? You can decorate it in so many ways, namely with little pink or white blossoms or some other reference to fruit like these apple slice ornaments that you can make with my printable fruit slice crafting pages.
The vase itself is made by covering cans with my printable fruit slice coloring pages, and the results are something that everyone will be proud of, as it is simply festive and cute! (And of course these coloring pages can be used in so many ways, this is just the first of several ideas I'm going to be sharing with you today and tomorrow.
You'll Need:
- two wide cans, mine are oatmeal cans (or one tall juice can)
- branches
- patterned paper, or better yet fruit slice coloring pages
- string or thread and a needle
- hot glue and/or double sided foam tape
How To:
- Color the fruit slice coloring pages as creatively as possible in colors to match your tableware, napkins you have on hand or a fun tablecloth you plan to use.
- Wrap cans in paper, and if using two cans, glue the cans together with hot glue or double-stick foam tape.
- Cut sticks to proper height for cans, secure to bottom of can with hot glue or pieces of duct tape if necessary for them to maintain their position within the can.
- Cut out fruit slices from printable fruit slice coloring pages, and using a needle and string or thread, make hangers for the fruit slices. Hang them on the branches where desired, and voila, a cute centerpiece is born!
