Almond Trees In Bloom In The Holy City Of Tsfat
The blooming period of our local almond trees is coming to an end, and I was fortunate to get out yesterday on a beautiful spring day, to not only witness some of this seasonal beauty, but also from a part of town that I visit quite infrequently. From this adjacent hilltop in a neighborhood called Canaan, the views of Mount Meron are stunning, I hope you enjoy this little snapshot of the views I enjoyed on my walk home.
There are many many old trees covering some of the hills, and when they are in bloom some areas are blanketed in a veil of pinkish white.
On yet another adjacent hill is the township of Birya, which for those of you who are history buffs, is the location where Rav Yosef Karo finished the Shulchan Aruch, as there was a plague in his town of Tsfat from which he fortunately escaped. This was in 1563, but until today it is the most widely accepted version of Jewish Law.
If you ever decide to visit Israel, or within Israel, to visit us up in the North, Spring is a lovely time! Hope to see you soon.

This is the Israel we never see on the news. It’s beautiful.

Yes, exactly! that is one of the reasons that I post these photos, so that those only familiar with Israel from all the horrendous news stories can connect to our holy land in a different way.
Others also think that Israel is only a middle eastern desert country, which it is, but only the southern half, up north where I live the topography and climate is very similar to Northern California where I grew up, interestingly enough. And, that means I now live in wine country, (I grew up near wine country) and some wines from local wineries have reached world class level, so we are quite proud!
