First Almond Blossoms On Rosh Chodesh Adar!
Wishing everyone a Chodesh Tov, (a good month) on this first day of the Jewish month of Adar! Adar is a month of great joy and so it only seems fitting that I share with you these gorgeous photos of the first almond blossoms that I saw today while out on a little hike with my boys. When the almond trees bloom in both pink and white, it is truly a spectacular sight around our city here in Northern Israel, and the first sign that Spring is on its way! Personally, no matter what else is going on, just one glimpse of these flowering trees and it just makes me so happy!
I will certainly share more photos with you as the trees become full of flowers, and for me it is also incentive to get out of the house and enjoy transitions from Winter to Spring! As you can see by the photo below, of a fig tree, when the almond trees bloom, the rest of the trees are still very much in their dormant stages, which makes the almond blossom all that much more special!
That is it for a little glimpse of life here in Israel, I'll be back shortly with a bunch more interesting photos of the hike we took today, as on Rosh Chodesh, which is a holiday of sorts, everyone has a half day of school, a great opportunity to get out into nature! And I dare say a great reminder to myself, I am not in school until 5:30 everyday, so I can and should take hikes a few times a week as now is the best time of year to enjoy the procession of blooming wild flowers.

Thanks for sharing Evanthia, so happy to hear that you get to enjoy this wonderful sight too! Some of the trees in my neighborhood are hundreds of years old, so it is really quite touching!

I love blossom my two favourites are cherry and almond. I have a print of Van Gough’s almond blossom painting up in my kitchen. Thanks !

Hi Claire, Ah yes, I actually have seen that painting in the Van Gough museum in Amsterstam (an incredible museum, you must go if you havent been, so many works of his we dont recognize……) and it is one of my favorites too! I guess there is something about the blooming tree the touches all of our creative souls!

These photos touch me so much because I’ve just bought a plot of land where there are a lot of fruit trees. They don’t have blossoms yet but they are ready to “explode”! There are 7-8 figs, 30 olive trees but I haven’t got almond tree (yet).
My life will change for sure because I will be very busy with this new challenge!
It’s really nice to think our countries both overlook the Mediterranean and they share the same flora!
I wish you a wonderful spring and a lot of flowers,
a big hug,
Rosi

Hi Rosi, So wonderful to hear from you and congrats on your new land, that sounds amazing! And 30 olive trees, my that is certainly enough for a very nice harvest…….the olives around here are green Syrian olives and many people preserve them themselves with a mix of salt and herbs and the results are delicious. Next time I look across the Mediterranean (hopefully soon, i love the ocean but it is an good hour away) I will wave to you my dear virtual friend! All the best, and would love to see photos of your property!
