Mosaic Stone Fridge Magnets Craft For Kids
After we finished making our mosaic star of david plaque, there were of course some leftover tiles, and being the resourceful crafter that I am, i came up with this cute little mini mosaic craft for kids and adults, and they even double as magnets! This was such a fun project I am even thinking about going out buying some more of these kid friendly mosaic tiles that one can actually cut with scissors, even though of course I have boxes of broken pottery waiting for a serious mosaic project some day…….sigh. And the other great thing about this project it that it is great for those who wouldn't or couldn't sit for a good few hours to finish a larger mosaic! So dig up some of those promotional magnets, especially the ones that are quite large, and lets get crafting!
You'll Need:
- mosaic stone tiles, photo seen below
- up-cycled magnetic sheets, used for promotional magnets etc.
- kid friendly grout
- high tack glue or silicone
- a permanent marker
How To Make Mini Fruit Mosaic Magnets:
- Draw shape of fruit on your promotional magnet and cut out with sharp scissors.
- Starting around the edge of the shape, glue stone tiles, cutting triangular shapes where necessary to navigate curves.
- Fill the entire shape with tiles, and set aside to dry.
- Cover entire shape with grout and then gently rub grout off of tiled areas.
- Set aside to dry and voila!
Note: Because of the added weight of the mosaic tile on the magnet, my magnets can hold small pieces of paper, but not large heavy ones. If you are looking for some strong magmets, do the mosaic on a different material, say corrugated plastic, or any heavy plastic, and then adhere strong magnets to the back. Additionally, these magnets are fragile and can break if dropped.
