Crocheted Patchwork Starburst Baby Blanket: A Reader’s Version!

Crochet Starburst Baby Blanket reader version

One of the joys of blogging is knowing that you've inspired someone else to add some creativity to their life, and with tangible evidence! i just love it when readers send me photos of things they've made using my patterns, or inspired by my projects, and this week I was particularly thrilled to find photos of this crocheted starburst baby blanket in my in box! My original crocheted starburst blanket is the perfect pattern to adapt to a baby blanket size, and is also a great project for crocheters of all levels.

This blanket was made by Gittel of Albany, New York a mother of nine! When I told her how amazed I was that she has time to crochet she mentioned that all of her children are actually married now and she is a grandmother of 50! Can you imagine that? I pointed her in the direction of some of my quick baby sweater patterns as well, as there is certainly no shortage of recipients for whom to crochet!

So, dear readers, if you have made something with one of my patterns, please do send photos. And to make this sweet blanket, keep reading for the link to the pattern.

The great thing about this pattern is that you can make it in your favorite colors, and use up all those odds and ends! One reader had the idea of making the blanket in a gender neutral color and then adding the border after the baby is born. According to Jewish custom we try not to prepare for the arrival of any specific baby, but one can certainly make some blankets to have on hand for babies in general, and maybe even make some to donate to your local hospital.

So take a look at my crocheted starburst blanket, make one square with your yarn and hook, and then figure out how large a baby blanket you'd like to make, and whether you'd like to make one that is square (16 squares total) or more rectangular (12 squares or 15 squares) You can always make the blanket bigger with a deep border if you like. And I almost forgot, another baby blanket pattern that was inspired by the patchwork blanket might also interest you, though reader's have had more trouble with the pattern,as you can see in the comments. Nonetheless, take a look at my crocheted starburst baby blanket (basically one giant starburst square) and decide for yourself.

I am the lucky recipient of this gorgeous blanket! Thank you Gittel for this piece of art! It looks great as an accessory throw on my couch, when my baby isn’t cuddling with it.
