Getting Ready To Celebrate A Stress-Free Hanukkah With Family

Hanukkah Celebrating With Family

Hanukkah starts on the night of December 12th, so now is the time to start getting ready for this wonderful eight night Jewish holiday.  My kids look forward to celebrating Hanukkah all year, because in our home it is a joyful holiday full of family together time which includes traditional Hanukkah meals and treats, practical presents often given according to a theme for the night, fun prizes, and of course lots of dreidel spinning! This year I’m going to do my best to make the holiday as relaxing and stress-free as possible, which really just boils down to planning ahead, being realistic and most importantly being present for your family!

It is true, that an eight day holiday, represents quite a chunk of time. Depending on the ages of the children, or even if the holiday is celebrated by just adults, keeping Hanukkah fresh and interesting all week long requires some forethought, and I’m here to help you with that! I was just introduced to a really nice Hanukkah Activities Box from a company called Days United, and if you are already feeling a little stressed having read only this first paragraph, or are just completely swamped this time of year, this might be a great solution for you. The Days Hanukkah box is a great gift idea as well, especially for those not so familiar with the holiday or who would like to teach their children the basics in a fun and friendly way.

Would you liked to learn more about this wonderful product delivered to your door just when you need it most? Keep on reading…….

Days Hanukkah box learning about hanukkah

So it goes like this. Yippee, a package! Who doesn’t love getting mail? Should we save it or open it now? I’d say open up the box and start reading the Hanukkah guide which has all the basic information you’ll need to start planning your fun filled holiday. This box is a great starting point for learning about Hanukkah, and the activities are a perfect way to get the ball rolling, or rather get the polymer clay rolling……

Hanukka polymer clay menorah craft

I’d start with the polymer clay Hanukkah menorah craft, as you can use it for decoration if prepared in advance, and kids will certainly be excited to light a menorah (with adult supervision only, please) they’ve made themselves.

  Lighting the menorah

On the first night, and every night, consult your handy Hanukkah guide for the right way to light the menorah. Use a menorah you have on hand (shown here) and/or the cute polymer clay one that the kids made.

Chocolate gelt playing dreidel

After you light the menorah, spend some time getting familiar with the rules for playing the dreidel game, and have fun. Make dreidel playing a part of each night, and be sure to have on hand something to use as coins, as the chocolate ones that come in the box will likely disappear quickly.

Frying and eating doughnuts

Making your own doughnuts might seem daunting, but with all the supplies right there in the box, and access to a really useful video, you can tackle this one with confidence! Hanukkah is the perfect time to enjoy home made doughnuts, so either make them a few hours before lighting the menorah, or later in the evening for dessert. Once you and/or the family gets the hang of making this traditional Hanukkah treat you may just find dozens of doughnuts gracing your table all week long. And don’t be surprised if you find yourself saying “I sure am glad we ordered the Days Hanukkah box!” And that dear readers is one sweet ending.

Wishing you all a wonderful light filled and stress-free holiday, with eight wonderful and meaningful nights!
