Simple Origami Fruit Is The Perfect Last Minute Tu B’Shevat Craft

Origami Fruit On Tray

I’m really not sure how Tu B’Shevat managed to sneak up on me just like that, but that aside, with the holiday coming tomorrow night now would be the time to whip up a few fun crafts and then run to the store and buy as many kinds of fruit (and nuts) as you possibly can to truly celebrate in style! It isn’t about quantity but about variety, so go for it! And speaking of variety, with this simple origami fruit craft you really can make a variety of fruit! Think orange paper for an orange, yellow paper for a lemon, green and red paper for apples, and purple paper for a plum!

Now, if you need a quick centerpiece, or something large to hang, go ahead and use the largest paper you can find to make fruit that really make a statement. Solid color wrapping paper might also work if it is thick enough, or simply double it up.

Origami Orange and Lemon

Come to think of it these origami fruit would also be great as place holders as you can simply write the guest’s name on the leaf, and then of course it would become a little take home favor as well. And if you want to plan ahead and make a bunch of these in advance, just do all the folding, but don’t blow them up until just before the event, wherein you can add the stem and leaf.

You’ll Need:

How To:

  1. Make squares from your paper, and fold according to origami balloon tutorial.
  2. Cut twigs that will be the height of the origami cube plus enough for the stem. Place a dot of high tack glue or hot glue on the end of the twig and insert it into the hole at the top of the balloon, and make sure twig reaches bottom of cube. Add a tiny bit of glue around the neck of the hole to hold twig in place if necessary.
  3. Cut a small leaf and affix the leaf to the base of the stem.
  4. That is it, so simple and so cute!
