Crocheted Plush Popcorn Stitch Flower Pattern

Crocheed Popcorn Flower AppliqueLooking for a gorgeous crocheted flower that is fun to make, has lots of plush dimension and looks fantastic? Here it is, the crocheted popcorn stitch flower that could be called a dahlia or even a chrysanthemum. And as you can see from this photo this flower is the perfect partner with the simple 2 row crocheted popcorn stitch flower, and in fact they are siblings!

I do have to say, this flower is unlike most crocheted flowers as it is very plush! So I’d say that the wisest thing to do is to use it as an applique of some kind (which is what I have actually done, project to come…..) or as a raised element in a granny square. A bunch of these crocheted flowers could also look great as a vertical garland, glued to a frame or ring. Whether you have a plan, or not (which is always the case in my creative world) start crocheting some of the beauties and you won’t regret it!

Crocheed Popcorn Flower AppliqueAs you can likely see, this popcorn stitch flower is quite simply the 2 row popcorn stitch flower with the addition of just another row…..and what a difference that row makes!

Crocheed Popcorn Flower AppliqueUsed with some crocheted leaves, or even some felt ones (hmmm, gotta try that!) this flower becomes just as cute as can be!

Plus Popcorn Stitch Flower Pattern:

  • Gauge not important, but for best result use a smaller hook with your chosen yarn than generally spedified
  • I used a 5mm hook with chunky yarn that would normally call for 6 or 6.5 mm hook
  • When you use chunky yarn you’ll get larger flowers which are great for crafting

Rounds 1 & 2: See pattern for 2 row popcorn stitch flower

Round 3: In this round you will double the number of popcorn stitches by making these stitches in the ch1 spaces from the previous row, or make one popcorn stitch in back of popcorn stitch frmom previous row, and one popcorn stitch in the ch1 stitch following the dc from the previos row. Between each popcorn stitch you will ch2.

Sl st into first ch1 space. Ch 3 and dc4 to make popcorn stitch. Ch2, popcorn stitch in ch1 after popcorn stitch from previous row. Repeat from * around, making a total of 16 popcorn stitches. slip stitch to top of ch3.

That is it!
