Large Quilled Leaves Using A Quilling Peg Board

Looking for a large quilled leaf to add to your quilling project? This one is roughly 3″ long, and its skeletal shape makes it great for pairing with more dense quilled elements. This week I have been experimenting with some quilled leaf shapes, some which I’ve made using tutorials from others, and this one which I made up myself. Now, I can’t say I love it as much as the quilled leaf sprigs I shared yesterday, but this leaf is much larger and could certainly represent leaves from many kinds of plants, I’m thinking roses, or even thistles.

Using my simple instructions, you can also come up with some leaves to call your own. Lets get quilling shall we?

You’ll Need:

pre-cut paper quillling strips, or cut your own, mine are 3/8″ roughly
white glue
a glue applicator tip with bottle, or a toothpick
a quilling peg board or some toothpicks and a corkboard

How To:

Use a peg board as shown, or push toothpicks into a piece of cork (or foamcore) in the same pattern. I’d recommend cutting the toothpicks in half.
Wrap paper strip around pegs as shown, and then go all around the shape to reinforce. Before going all around the shape, apply glue as see in how to for quilled leaf sprigs. For this leaf you will need to glue two strips together to get required length.
Set aside to dry for five minutes, and carefully remove, preferably nudging with tweezers.
Make another one, and glue the two halves together at the spine. Use tweezers to press the spines together as much as possible.

I wasn’t sure whether to purchase this little peg board, well actually I knew i wanted it, but once it arrived I wasn’t sure how I’d use it. Now I’m so glad to have it as part of my quilling tools set, plus it just too darn cute! I just wish there were at least double the number of pegs, so I have to contact the company about that, or order another one, hmmmm.
