Simple Crocheted Cactus In Bloom

Crochet cactus simpleIt is true I may have missed the boat when it comes to the crocheted cactus trend, as I actually started this cactus back in July 2017, but truthfully after finally completing my first crocheted cactus and enjoying it a bit in my dining room, I think this is a trend that is worth keeping around. And if you follow my tutorial for making this crocheted cactus, you’ll realize that this is actually a quick and simple crocheted cactus, and oh so simple to whip up! Better yet, whip up a whole collection and you’ll be so happy you did, no water or light needed for you new garden, just some crocheting! And the great thing about this pattern is that you can use it to make cacti of all sizes, tall, wide, short, you name it! Okay, lets get crocheting!

How To:

  1. Find a pot you’d like to fill with a crocheted cactus, and with that in mind, decide the size of your cactus.
  2. Using the front post double crochet tutorial linked to above, crochet a piece that is the height of your desired cactus, and the width that is the diameter of your cactus. You can decide on the width as you get started and that is the length of your piece.
  3. Assemble your barrel cactus by crocheting together the first and last rows, working with the inside out. Now you will have a tube.
  4. Now you’ll need to close up the top, You can do that with a yarn needle and yarn, by sewing a running stitch and then pulling it to close the top, or you can crochet a few round of decreases.
  5. Stuff your cactus with polyfill stuffing or anything you have around, like old stockings, old t-shirts, even plastic bags.
  6. I made a base for my cactus by simply putting it into a paper coffee cup that I cut down. You can make a base with a piece of cardboard, or even crochet a circle to close up the bottom, though that would make this project not quite as simple!
  7. Now crochet the flower, if your cactus is in blooom? My flower is made of two one-round crocheted flowers, one that has 8 petals and one that has 13 petals. You can make a flower of any size to suit your cactus.
  8. Now go make a bunch from chunky yarn or light weight yarn like I did, and enjoy!
