Crocheted Cactus Applique To Use In So Many Ways
Crocheted cacti are just the cutest things, really, and despite my late arrival to the trend (Truthfully I made these a year and a half ago, just had no time to photograph them, sigh.) they still look great. This crocheted cactus applique can be used in so many ways, I actually used it as a birthday garland recently, and am hoping to make a dessert scene wall hanging in the future. I found the pattern on Pinterest and changed it just a bit to suit my personal aesthetic, namely I made the cactus taller and used two strands of green yarn in different shades to add texture. I just love the results, and you will too! Ah yes, I was just thinking you could use these little cactus appliques as napkin rings or stiffen them and even make key chains. Enjoy!
- two shades of green sport weight yarn, pink yarn and yellow yarn for flower
- crochet cactus applique pattern here
- tiny flower pattern here.
How To:
- Use pattern I’ve linked to, but to crochet cacti that look like mine, crochet with a double strand consisting of the 2 green shades, and make the foundation chain 14. With a longer chain you’ll have to adjust the side arms a bit, but that is truly simple, just crochet them where they would be according to the pattern.
- Crochet a tiny flower using the pattern above, and make a chain of 3 for each petal. The pattern does not show tiny flowers, but use the same technique, and it will work!
- Sew on the flower using yellow yarn and make an x or a star in the middle of the flower as you attach the flower to the cactus.
That is it! Now go make a bunch! I’m of course thinking about t-shirt yarn to make some giant ones, but no green t-shirt yarn in my local store so won’t be doing that for now.
This is also a great little take along project to keep in your bag. You just never know when you’ll have an extra ten or so minutes to whip up a little cactus that can make all the difference!
Happy crocheting!

I don’t know how to crochet. I am making a blanket for my son and these cactus and flower appliances are perfect for my blanket. Do you make and sell them?
