DIY Play Cupcakes Craft With Sprayfoam

Play-Cupcake-CraftAren’t these play cupcakes just the cutest? They are so simple to make, and whipping up a batch is a great craft project to do with a group. My daughter actually made these with a group of gradeschool girls, and they used them as cupcake magnets, so use your imagination and enjoy! It is true, this craft is made with a product that is for adults only, and likely full of toxic fumes, but maybe you have a can of insulation spray foam sitting around, so I’d say better to use it than toss the partly full can! Spray foam can be used to create so many amazing things for Purim as well, so give that some thought but do make sure to use the product outdoors only, wearing gloves and with caution. Even crafting sometimes needs to be done mindfully, and that is just the way of the world. Sometimes I envy quilters who only quilt, or potters who only work with clay, or knitters who only knit………all of which involves contained and expected supplies, but then again, I’d surely get stir crazy as I love to switch it up when it comes to creativity, and if that means a little bit of toxic spray foam here and there well so be it…….just walking outside or going to the park can be equally ill advised depending on what was just sprayed on the weeds or pests. Yikes, lets just make some cupcakes and bring joy into the world!

Play-Cupcake-CraftYou’ll Need

  • insulation spray foam (please read tips below and use caution, and only for adult use)
  • cupcake liners
  • acrylic paint
  • small red pom poms
  • sprinkles

How To:

  1. In a well ventilated area spray cupcake sized portions of foam into cupcake liners. Work in a spiral fashion, or just make a glob.
  2. Paint with brown paint by spooning some paint over the top and letting it drip to resemble chocolate
  3. Add sprinkles while paint is wet, and when paint dries apply red pom pom with high tack craft glue or a tiny dab of hot glue.

Spray Foam Cautions And Tips:

  • Always use product outdoors and out of reach of small children.
  • Wear gloves and removing foam from hands is difficult
  • Foam can expand when you don’t want it to, like when you’re done foaming and set the can down. Avoid by keeping a cardboard box handy and always set the foam can in the box to catch the drips and to prevent a big mess.
  • DONT Wipe away any foam mess Immediately (unless it gets near mouth or eyes)If foam goes where you don’t want it, you’ll be tempted to wipe it up. DON’T (With the exception of eyes and skin)! You’ll only spread the goo and make the mess worse. Instead, let it harden completely and then scrape or sand it off. A serrated knife with a flexible blade is perfect for cutting off excess foam.

Okay, now lets have some fun making adorable as can be foam cupcakes!
