Lets Explore Stockholm!

Stockholm-gamla-stan-buildingThe second stop during our 2 plus weeks in Sweden this past summer was Stockholm, a true delight! I loved the architecture and of course the water, and there is even a small kosher food store, as well as a Jewish community. We only had two actual full days to explore the city, so there were many things that we did not have a chance to see, which is always the case with travel! And now I’ve put together a few posts on Stockholm for your armchair travel experience, so sit back and enjoy!

Stockholm-Norrbro-bridge-from-Gamla-Stam-to-ParliamentStockholm is a city built on a number of islands, which means water and bridges! The stone Vasabrond Bridge connects the Old Town with the New Town, with the opera house in the background.

You’ll find many quaint and interesting details wandering the streets of Old Town. I actually saw a sign just like this in the Nordic Museum, so I’m guessing this was a typical sign of sorts, love it!
Stockholm-Old-Town-Circular-courtyardI happened upon this interesting round public square, not far from the palace, through an alley! Called Brantingtorget it is the courtyard of the Chancery house annex and completed in 1950. Unique and worth a peek!

Stockholm-on-the-waterThe bridge from the palace to the street Strandvagen, an elegant area with impressive buildings.

Stockholm-Arches-leaving-Old-TownRiksdagshuset, Sweden’s massive parliament building, occupies almost half of Helgeandsholmen, a small island tucked between Stockholm’s city center and the old town. Two large arches connect the old parliament building with the new parliament building, which are divided by a pedestrianized street. Through these arches is a whole street of shopping, but with only a few days to explore shopping is not on our list.

Stockholm-boats-to-sandhamnA ferry to Sandhamn, a well as boats to many locations in the archipelagos, with a few hotels in the background, on Strandvagen, just lovely! Stockholm-buildings-on-Strandvagen-OstermalmThe striking red awnings of the diplomat hotel on Strandvagen.
Stockholm-red-awnings-red-carI’m guessing the owner of that car parked here so that we could snap this shot?

Stockholm-colorful-old-town-buildingsNot a great photo, but I had to include these iconic buildings surrounding the square Stortget. That is it for my little peek at Stockholm, hope you’ve enjoyed those few minutes transported to Sweden!
