Simple Cloud Cake Toppers Are Cute For Any Occasion!
I am rushing to post this cloud cake topper DIY as tonight is the beginning of the 9 day mournign period on the Jewish calendar, and we certainly won’t be throwing any parties. That said I wanted to post this now as a message to all those who might be trying their hand at illustration or painting: save anything you do on heavy paper, you can cut it up and use it in a pinch! As I was trying to pull together a whole display of fun party decor for my daughter’s 18th birthday, I spied a small pile of illustrations I’d made two plus years ago, and realized that the…

5 Minute Paper Cake Toppers Using Your Old Art
Today is my daughter’s 18th birthday, and so after 18 years of raising her and throwing birthday parties with lots of homemade decorations and cute DIY cakes I got it together rather at the last minute and pulled off a really cute birthday surprise complete with lots of recycling crafts that I can’t wait to share. The thing is, tonight is the beginning of a very sad 9 day mourning period on the Jewish calendar, so while I’m posting the DIY birthday cake decorations today, I think the rest will have to wait until after T’isha B’av so that my blog reflects what is actually going on in our minds…

DIY Mosaic Planter Is The Perfect Summer Craft
Since it looks like there will be no summer adventures outside of Israel for us this year, I realized that I should take a closer look at all the amazing things happening practically outside my door, and photograph them to share with you! For starters I just noticed this lovely mosaic dove and chamsa planter that is just as sweet as can be and the perfect theme for the three weeks, because the dove is a Jewish symbol of peace, healing and hope for a better world. Given the size of the vines in the planter it has been there for several months, gasp! So I can’t believe I just…

Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday
Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! Wow, July is already half way through, and no return to school in sight, just hoping that there will be come Sept.1st (for my daughter) and Rosh Chodesh Elul (for my sons, whose schools are according to the Jewish calendar) though nothing is certain. We are in the Jewish mourning period known as the “three weeks” which until next Wednesday means no haircuts, no music and no parties, with the rules becoming much stricter for the last nine days, as we approach the saddest day of the year, T’isha B’Av, which is also a major fast day. I…

Now In Bloom In My July Container Garden!
Container gardening is the next best thing to gardening in actual soil, and for busy folks it may just be the best of both worlds. I’ll admit my containers could use a bit more love, but I’ll wait until the weather cools down a bit. July in Northern Israel can be quite dry and hot, which means that not all the plants in my container garden are at their happiest, while some are quite happy, like this plant, above, which I just discovered is Salvia, which is draught resistant and therefore loves the summer weather, though of course I am watering it. I have grown this same plant, in another…

A Peek In My Sketchbook: Drawing Florals From My Own Photos
Here we are, another peak in my sketchbook, because I have to admit, I have been making a serious practice of it! So much so, that even my daughter, who knows better, asked me what I’m going to “do with all this”. Ha ha, it is just a bunch of sketchbooks, not a pile of paintings, which I need to create next! And in any case, a sketchbook practice is not supposed to be for anything other than exactly what it is…..namely a place where you can do whatever you want without having to please others or worry about what you’re going to do with it! Having discovered how to…
