How-to-use-wall-stickers
Ever discovered a trend that was well under way and yet you just picked it up on your radar? That is how I feel about wall stickers, but this trend is here to stay, so no feeling sorry for ourselves! Wall stickers are one of the latest and greatest products that have added an ease and style to home decorating that is simply unmatched with any other product. Yes, wall paper now comes in varieties that are adhesive (no wall paper glue involved) and removable, nonetheless you’ll still have to figure out how to apply that wall paper evenly and match the seams for good results. Wall stickers, ahhhh, you can measure for example to evenly space polka dots, but many wall stickers are stand alone elements that you just place in the designated spot, and voila, your room just got a makeover with very minimal effort. Did I mention that wall stickers are budget friendly and just completely exciting, or at least for folks like me who love design?

This month I have been working virtually on a nursery design for some loved ones across the seas, and after pouring over all the options, and even considering wall paper, at the end of the day, wall stickers won out, as they are just irresistible, so easy to apply, and in most cases easy to remove as well. A true win win situation. AND one can very easily have some wall stickers printed using your own art or little doodles, now that is something I’m planning to try, can’t wait!

I’ve raved about how great wall stickers are, now lets get into the nitty gritty of interior design and hash out some of the ways to use wall stickers and why they might just be the design solution to make your home your home.. And shhhhh, I know the idea of wall stickers might sound like something better seen on the inside of a high school locker, so you don’t have to tell anyone, but when you see for yourself I know you’ll be sold. And since I’m not yet selling wall stickers myself (though thinking I ought to) I really just want you to have a home or a tiny space for yourself that brings you joy and contentment.

How To Use Wall Stickers?

Wall stickers can be used in many ways, and the variety of products on the market can help you create something that you love.

1. Wall Mural Wall Stickers: A wall mural, like the geometric heart or water color flowers above can be the perfect touch in so many cases. Some murals are one piece and larger murals come in a few sheets that you’ll have to piece together on the wall. Just please don’t go overboard and put one in every room, as too much of anything can start to be, well too much.

2. Wall Stickers That Look Like Wall Paper: One can simulate the look of wall paper by quite simply evenly applying wall stickers such as dots, leaves, stars etc. That said, uneven or random application of dots can also look like wall paper, you decide!

3. Small Wall Sticker Designs: Small or smallish wall stickers can be added to give a little spot a decorative touch, something interesting, and of course you don’t have to limit your stickers to walls – stickers can be used on doors, furniture and even appliances! (again, tread lightly!)

4. Custom Wall Stickers: If you would like to put your child’s name over their crib, or even your company’s name on the wall in your office, why not consider a custom or semi custom wall sticker? You can check out this site https://www.aspectwallart.com for advice on a variety of designs that will suit your needs.

How Color Comes Into Play

When carefully chosen, the perfect wall art can create a look for the entire room. According to color psychology, hues influence one’s perception, that is why the color is a great way to change your room’s mood, and yours as well? Color can make rooms in your home feel and look calmer, more joyful, more relaxed, or more dramatic, if that is what floats your boat. Some wall tones can make a small room feel larger, or a spacious one feels more intimate, which is something to think about when preparing the backdrop for your wall stickers.

Make sure to choose the right color for your wall stickers for a perfect fit. To give you an idea; red shades raise the energy level of the room, yellow shades are like the joy of sunshine and communicate happiness, blue tones are known to bring down blood pressure and slow breathing and pulse rate, and green hues are perceived to be the most relaxing color for the eye. That said, go for colors that you love, and even consider combining your favorites, in the case of polka dots that come in every color.

Creating A Focal Point With Wall Stickers

One of the fundamental principles of interior design is that every room greatly benefits from a focal point or a single element that immediately draws the eye into space and adds interest. It comes as no surprise that this principal can easily be executed with wall stickers!

A focal point can be what is referred to as a “feature wall”, namely covering the whole wall with a pattern/mural, or one can opt to create a focal point on a much smaller area by applying a pattern or mural over a bed or desk, for example. And get creative with your placement of stickers, such as vines that drop down from the ceiling, or flowers that grow from the floor up, for a fun take on home decor.

Are Wall Stickers For You?

It is true, we won’t likely find wall stickers in someone’s castle, but for most of us, whether it be in our homes or businesses, where budget friendly options are welcome, wall stickers are amazing. Not to mention that for renters they are perfect, as they are generally removeable without damaging paint, and for kid’s rooms they’re great as you can change them easily as the child grows. You will need to have fairly un-textured walls to use stickers, or avoid using them in any place where the walls have little bumps or ridges. What else can I say? I am sold and truthfully I already have a bunch of wall stickers, gold polka dots for starters just waiting for their spotlight!

I recently started searching online for wall stickers/decals to spruce up my stark white kitchen walls. I decided to start small with a small matte black sticker/transfer that I placed on the wall over my coffee corner at the far end of my kitchen. It is an artsy coffee cup with aroma tendrils above it and the word ‘coffee’ artfully written below it. It looks like it could have been hand painted in some trendy coffee shop. A $2 purchase from overseas and a few minutes was all it took to set a lovely focal point. I am now waiting for some greenery and hydrangeas (also from overseas) to put on the wall above my kitchen table at the other end of the kitchen. It’s so much fun and there are so many choices out there. Don’t worry, I won’t overdo it! I love your emails and all of your creativity. Have a Shana Tova Umesuka together with your family.
