A Fun Quilled Paper Bonfire For Lag B'Omer

I have pulled this one out of the archives, because it is truly simple with great results, and right about NOW would be the time to make one, or a few!

Call it a quilled paper campfire, or call it a quilled paper bonfire, either way it is a fun craft for all ages and requires only very simple supplies. The wonderful Jewish holiday of Lag B’Omer is coming up on the night of May 2nd, so now is the time to start thinking about some simple crafts to celebrate. The bonfire is one of the major symbols of the holiday (and kids in my neighborhood are now hoarding wood of all kinds to contribute to bonfires around town) and as it turns out quilling with orange and yellow paper is a great way to depict fire! So whether you will be celebrating Lag B’Omer or are looking for an artful summer craft, this quilled paper campfire or bonfire is perfect.

Ready to get rolling? (Got it, a quilling joke….) Let’s do it…….

You’ll Need:

paper strips in red, orange, yellow and brown, mine are pre-cut quilling strips
white glue
tweezers, optional but really helpful for neat work
a comb

How To:

Flames can be made by rolling a coil and then releasing and squeezing both ends into a point. For larger flames release coil for a more open effect. Tiny flames were made with 1/2 a strip of quilling paper.
Logs were made by wrapping the strip around the teeth of a comb, starting at the center of the comb and wrapping to form a concentric rectangle. I then squared out the ends of the outermost round to form a log.
Arrange your elements before affixing to paper with glue. The cleanest way to apply glue to elements like these is to form a thin layer of glue on a piece of plastic, and then using tweezers gently dip the bottom of the element into the glue.
