Scrapbook art journal

The scrapbook is a fantastic way of showcasing and protecting precious family memories, photos, souvenirs, and heirlooms. A scrapbook can be your way of telling the people in your life, as well as your future generations, the story of your family and the proud heritage you are passing on. Immortalizing family memories can be a daunting task at first glance, but if you put your heart to it, and do it with patience and love, you’ll find it rewarding. A scrapbook can also be a wonderful way to give thanks for all the good in your life, to work through issues from the past, and to develop a creative style, all while creating something with great meaning. There are many ways to preserve family memories through scrapbooking, whether you choose an art journal style as seen in the photo above, or something with more photos and less ephemera. Let’s learn about some of the options!

Start with a Couples Snapshot Scrapbook

Many scrapbookers often think of baby pictures to get their projects started or as inspiration for other scrapbooks that will be created. An excellent idea is to create memories going back to where it all started – back when you were a new couple. It would be nice to recall how your family came to be from that fateful day when the two of you first met. Thankfully, Scrapbooking Coach has ideas that are a great source of inspiration to get you started with your couples snapshot scrapbook. You can decide to either start your story on your wedding day or at the time when you met, depending on the photos that you have.

The beauty of a couples scrapbook project is it can be something you can show your children at various points in their lives. As kids, they may be curious about how you met and how the family grew. As teenagers, they may come to you for relationship advice and you can tell them stories of how you started as a couple. As adults, they may be inspired by your scrapbooking ideas to create something for their own families. For an added contemporary aesthetic  you can choose to use black-and-white photos, which go well with color embellishments, highlights, backgrounds, and accents.

Baby Pictures Scrapbook

It would be nice to dedicate a special scrapbook to those memorable moments your children came into your life. If you have kept the ultrasound photos of your kids, they would make great introductory content for the baby picture scrapbook. If not, newborn babies are in any case more adorable and eye-catching when placed on the front pages of your scrapbook. Depending on your preference, you can create one scrapbook for each child or place all baby pictures in one large scrapbook if you have more than one child. Feel free to get creative with the baby pictures scrapbook and add notes and descriptions for every picture. It will be more meaningful to look back at baby pictures when you have important details written around their pictures. Don’t forget to include the dates, weight, and other measurements taken on the day they were born. You can gather photos up to the day they can take their first steps and walk, and make captions for the development milestones they achieved.

Growing Up Scrapbook

Don’t let those dozens of pictures you took of your kids until now go to waste. Preserve them and remember those precious moments of their development in a scrapbook. Starting the scrapbook pages at the time they first learned to walk can inspire you to create content for the next pages. Some prefer adding their birthday pictures (although others may have a separate scrapbook for birthdays), others keep records of the many “firsts” of their kids, while some take random or significant photos during different periods in their lives. Whatever your preferred content for this scrapbook is, it will surely bring back memories.

Create a Family Moments Scrapbook

A picture is worth a thousand words, so why not tell the special tale of your family life through a scrapbook of pictures? It’s time to open those boxes and dig through photos to find pictures of your entire family and write a short description or detail about the photos. Just by simply adding the year or place the photos were taken, memories come flooding back when you and your family browse through the pages of this scrapbook. It is an excellent idea to have a large or thick scrapbook that can hold as many pictures as it can. Don’t worry about not filling the pages from the first page to the last. It is meant to be a work in progress, and you can still add photos that will be taken in the years to come.
