Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday!

Craft schooling sunday title art square
Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday! January is almost over and time is speeding by, which means it is time to start prioritizing for those of us who want to get in some serious crafting for Purim this year, which starts on the night of March 23rd. We do have an extra month as it is Jewish leap year, nonetheless, time is of the essence as seven weeks can just fly by!

As you may have noticed I have been working on my blog's design, and there is now a bar of photos just above this, which will display posts pertaining to the next upcoming Jewish holiday, which in this case is Purim, where I get stretched to my crafty limits with DIY costumes and creative gift packaging containing creative food presentation. We have yet to decide on our costumes for this year, but maybe this time there will be no customary all nighter's involved, the night before the kids wear their costumes to school!

Okay, enough about Purim, lets take a look at some of the fantastic features from last week's party, wow! You will notice that I'm not featuring anything directly related to the holiday on Feb 14th as it is not a holiday that we celebrate, but there is certainly no problem with heart shaped crafts to spread the love! Thanks for joining me here, and please step forward and join the party, we'd love to meet you! And for a new twist on the geography topic, since so many are from the US, IF YOU ARE FROM THE USA, PLEASE SPECIFY YOUR STATE IN THE NAME OF THE LINK UP, just for fun, so we can continue our virtual road trip!

Turkey wraps, baked turkey with spinach meatballs

Asian turkey wraps from atta girl says (USA) and baked turkey meatballs from home cooking memories (USA) I would have love to include more non-dessert items but many non-dessert contributions included items not in keeping with Jewish dietary law unfortunately, so since making a non kosher dessert is pretty difficult, (meaning if you use kosher certified ingredients) unless there is meat in there somehow, on to the stuff that looks great but isn't so great for you:

Tropical granola clusters, carrot cake roll with cheese and pineapple filling

Tropical granola clusters from the frugal foodie mama (USA) and a carrot cake swiss roll with pineapple cream cheese from Winnie.

  Cupcakes on a stick,marshmellow arrows

This idea would be great for Purim, sweet cupcakes on a stick from homecooking memories (USA), while this one would be perfect for Lag B'Omer, marshmellow arrows from Lauren McBride (USA.)

Peanut butter overnight oats, peanut butter cookies with m&ms
Peanut butter overnight oatmeal from embellishments (USA) and peanut butter cookies from summerscraps (USA.)

Berry tea food coloring for frosting, strawberry coffee cake doughnuts

Hi Sarah — Looking forward to seeing the development of your Purim costumes and maybe a link to your favorite hamentaschen recipe. Always on the hunt for the perfect dough. There was a bakery in Los Angeles where we would buy hamentaschen when I was a child and the dough was so delicious — clearly a sugar-cookie dough, but also a bit soft. And I’m wondering now whether it had a bit of orange rind in the poppy seed filling for that je ne sais quois to the flavor.
Thank you for featuring my washi-tape peg dolls. Hope you have a good week ahead —

Hi Margaret, Great to hear from you, the hamentaschen sounds yummy, though dont know if Ill be baking much this year as my family doesnt necessarily love hamentaschen and Im trying to stay away from sugar and flour, so better not to have it around! Purim here is such a huge celebration compared to anything in the US that Im not depriving them of any significant holiday food, plus we generally receive a bunch from friends and neighbors with the mishloach manot. Last year we made some with whole wheat flour, which you can see in that photo with the cookie as the hat in the slide show, but they really werent all that great. Many of my friends and neighbors here make stuffed cabbage for Purim to remember the hidden nature of the miracle (and the name Esther which comes from nistar which means hidden) so mate that is something to try, or maybe even some stuffed Asian style cabbage rolls, that sound good! all the best!

You are very welcome, would love to have some time to crochet some hearts too, but maybe not this year. I even have some crocheted heart baskets that i made last year and never quite got around to sharing as i wanted to share the pattern too….that may have to wait even another year, yikes!
