Vegetable Carving 101: Simple Carved Radish Garnish

Vegetable Carving 101 Simple Carved Radishes Garnish
Radishes always look great as part of a spread of salads, and now I'll honestly tell you that a few simple carved radishes thrown into the equation is truly stunning! And best of all radishes keep really well in cold water in the fridge, so you can make these little radish flower garnishes days ahead of when you'll actually need them. And that my friends is truly a great thing, as I can't see my self whipping up carved veggies on the spot, I'm much prefer to pull them out of my fridge and garnish away! Okay, ready to carve a radish? Lets get started!

You'll Need:

  • a carving tool of some kind, preferably a U or V shaped vegetable carving tool, though block printing or wood carving tools can also work if you have some on hand. That actually is what I used, as you can see below. The results aren't quite as great as with the real thing, but a pretty good substitue in the mean time!
  •  lots of little radishes

Ah yes, but how do you carve them? Quite simple really, you just make little cuts up to the center of the radish, thus removing a small portion of skin. And you continue doing this around the circumference to form a flower. And then of course you can go wild and create all kinds of designs if you have the time, and if your radishes are a bit bigger than these tiny ones. Enjoy!
