The difference between a crocheted cowl and a crocheted collar may just be how it is worn, or it may be that the dimensions are different, that is something you'll have to decide for yourself. The look you'll want to achieve is that seen in the photo here, the question is how those dimensions play themselves out depending on whether this is a collar to wear with a coat of some kind, or over a sweater, in which case it should be quit a bit smaller height wise.

I highly suggest making yourself a little pattern from a long rectangle of fabric. I'd even poke a hole in the felt and attach a ribbon, as it is worth the effort to get this right! Once you know the size you'd like to make your long rectangle, well the rest is just smooth sailing, or rather crocheting.

Yarn: acrylic mohair blend, 1 ball 50g aqua, 1 ball 50 g blue

Hook: 4.5mm

Pattern: Foundation chain 26, number of rows: 40, four rows of each color using double crochet stitch, crocheted into back loop of chain to create ribbed effect
