Quick And Cute Cake Flags From Paper Cups
If you are celebrating Purim this coming Saturday night (with the major festivites actually on Sunday) then like me, you are likely in need of a few quick and cute ideas to help make your holiday festive. Yes, little tricks that give your table and your mishloach manot that extra little touch but actually took very little time! I introduce to you the idea of paper cup flags, paper cup toothpick flags, and paper cup dessert cups…..these three items all made from one single cup! Keep reading for complete instructions, and yes I know time is precious, so I'll make it quick!
This idea came about when I couldn't find the right dessert cups for my son's bar mitzvah dessert bar, and thus took regular waxed paper cups and cut them down to be the right size for fruit salad. Being of course resourceful always, I just couldn't toss the remnants and then realized that they make fantastic flags!
You'll Need:
- Waxed (or not, depending on what you'll be putting in the cup) paper drinking cups with a nice design (polka dots in rows help one cut the cup strait!)
- skewers and toothpicks
- hot glue
How To:
- Each cup can be cut into three portions, (see photo below) the bottom portion becomes a dessert cup, the middle portion becomes a cake flag, and the top portion becomes several toothpick flags.
- For the cake flag I simple folded the middle portion in half and using hot glue inserted the skewer into the fold. For the toothpick flags I used smaller pieces to get more flags, but you can also make a two sided flag if desired.
- That is it, so simple, and really great……I'm using a bunch of flags on skewers for my centerpieces which I hope to share with you tomorrow!
