Crocheted Flower Mobile Is Perfect For Every Occasion
A few months ago I shared my crocheted t-shirt yarn flowers, and guess what, I actually put them to use as birthday party mobile that phased nicely into Tu B’Shevat decorations, that are now phasing into Purim decorations! So for the past few months a pink crocheted flower mobile has been hanging over our dining room table, and some of the numerous guests have commented how lovely it looks, not realizing that it was actually a seasonal decoration. The great thing about this crocheted mobile is that you can hang the strands from a light fixture, as I have done, or simply attach them to a hoop. And once you crochet the flowers, assembling this spring blossom mobile is oh so simple, gotta love that! This would also be a perfect baby mobile…….wedding photo backdrop, bat mitzvah backdrop, you name it! And the individual crocheted glower garlands would look lovely hanging from a tree or really just about anywhere, just a few or a huge amount, you decide. Get a huge bunch of friends together, get lots of skeins of t-shirt yarn, and you can have yourself a great party backdrop that can then be repurposed into baby mobiles for the whole world, or floral lampshades, or one could even sew these flowers onto a blanket. Okay, enough babbling, lets whip up a crocheted flower mobile!
You’ll Need:
- crocheted flowers, my t-shirt yarn flowers are perfect as they are much heavier than standard crocheted flowers
- a yarn needle
- mercerized cotton yarn or any string or embroidery thread that you have on hand
How To:
Varying flower size and color on each strand, simply thread your needle and with a long basting stitch, run your length of yarn through all the flowers, and tying the end onto the top of the very bottom flower. The flowers can then be adjusted on the string once hung which is a nice option. Examine my photos to see if you’d like to end your garland with a little flower, as I did for some of the strands, or with something larger, it is truly a small detail, but worth figuring it out before you start.
Have fun with this one, and when your party or occasion is over, pack those flowers away for the future, I know they’ll come in handy! Of course any little girl in your life would love to have these hanging over her bed, or from a light fixture……or sew some to a pillow or to the bottom of the bed skirt, or make magnets, really no end to the ways one can use these flowers! Ah yes, just in case those gears aren’t turning yet, when you use t-shirt yarn these garlands are really quite sturdy, so one could hang them in a doorway like a beaded curtain or even outdoors, though the t-shirt yarn will likely fade if in the sun for prolonged periods. I’m thinking of adding some strings of pom poms for Purim, which I think will be a nice joyful addition. Enjoy!
