DIY: Rope Wrapped Apples Look Great Year Round

Rope Wrapped Apples In House Shaped ShelfIf you are looking for a quick craft to add some cozy rustic charm to your home, this dear readers might just do the trick. These DIY rope covered apples are so simple to make that you can surely whip up a whole bowl full in an hour or so. Of course if you start calling all your friends to tell them about this great craft you found, well that may just increase your crafting time, so I’d say craft and then tell! Or in this case, Pin, if you would be so kind?

Rope, in this case the thinnest one I could find at my local hardware store, is great for making things that have that rustic feeling I’m craving this fall, and really can be used for so many things. I have made a crocheted rope heart, as well as a knit rope pot holder with this same cotton two ply chord/rope, and it really is exactly the right thickness for wrapping small to medium sized items.

Ready to get wrapping? Here we go…………………..

Rope Wrapped Apples DIY Craft

You’ll Need:

  • plastic, styrofoam or paper mache apples (my small one is styrofoam, the large one is something that was green and likely composite wood of some kind and was sitting around for way tooooo long, yippee!)
  • 2-ply cotton rope sold in a ball at hardware stores
  • hot glue, low temp is preferable for plastic and styrofoam, though I used my regular one

How To:

  • Remove the stem and set aside, don’t lose it!
  • Starting at the bottom of the apple, secure the end to the bottom, and start wrapping around in a circular/spiral motion. Apply tiny dots of hot glue at you go, otherwise rope will fall off if apples are handles by curious folks. Continue up sides of apple and over the top until you reach the hole where the stem needs to be re-inserted.
  • Depending on how things look and size of rope, you may be able to reinsert stem, or more likely you will just glue it in place in the proper spot.
  • That is it, now go make a bunch!
