Simple Giant Paper Peacock Party Decor

Paper-peacock-simple-party-decor

A big huge PHEW — my late night efforts to assemble some decorations for our women’s Purim party were mostly a success, and now I have a few things to share! While I had a colorful “gan eden” garden theme in mind, I actually only got as far as the birds for the garden, together with a few huge flowers. Fortunately that turned out to be enough as my original idea would have taken days to make and more time than I had to assemble, not to mention quite likely overkill. So first of all I’ll share with you my giant paper peacock, which is just as cute as can be, can certainly stand alone, or be a part of a themed party, and most of all is so simple to make! This peacock was a part of a scene of sorts covering some room divider panels placed on either side of a stage space to hide the actors and the audio equipment. I’ll be sharing all the elements with you over the next day or so, so stay tuned for that, but in the mean time, lets make a paper peacock!

Paper-peacock-simple-party-decorYou’ll Need:

  • the largest paper sheets you can buy, mine are hmmm, large, will have to measure them
  • thin cardboard, largest you can find, to make a peacock to trace around if you need multiples
  • some contact paper (or colored paper and a glue stick or double stick tape)
  • a black permanent marker
  • a pencil
  • good scissors

How To:

  1. Practice drawing your peacock design on a small piece of paper, mine was inspired by a vintage Japanese children’s paper crafts book.  I love the clean and simple design, but that is a matter of personal taste, so if you prefer something closer to the real thing proportion wise, so consult a photo. Then again, just use mine as inspiration, because the real proportion of a peacock will not give you something this tall!
  2. Now draw your peacock with a pencil on your actual paper. If you’ll be needing more than one, draw your peacock on a large sheet of thin cardboard so you can use it to trace around for creating multiples.
  3. Cut out the peacock, and add the details! The yellow is yellow contact paper, all the black details are drawn with a permanent marker.
  4. The leg was supposed to be longer, but I ran out of time. A short leg like this can be used for a sitting peacock, for a standing one make the leg quite a bit longer.
  5. Enjoy!
