Crocheted Cotton Potholders Add Swedish Style To Your Kitchen

A Swedish cottage is not a Swedish cottage without the addition of some rustic crocheted potholders! Okay, admittedly I am no expert having only visited Sweden once, this past summer, but we did rent five different properties and the two that had crocheted potholders proudly displayed happened to be the lovliest kitchens to boot! So, if you have already tried your hand at a ribbed crocheted potholder, maybe it is time to try something a bit more adventurous, namely a checkerboard potholder or a basket weave potholder! I am not providing the patterns for either of these, but rather photos to inspire you to create your own rustic crcoheted potholders that will certainly delight this holiday season, if you can part with them that is! This crocheted checkerboard is made using the tapestry crochet technique is a great way to practice carry a second color along as you crochet, which is how this checkerboard pattern is achieved. Of course tapestry crochet can include more than two colors and can be used to create quite intricate patterns, though I’d start here!
The second crocheted potholder looked like a basket weave stitch, but on closer examination I believe it might be the moss stitch. In the mean time I’m in the middle of crccheting a potholder using the basket weave stitch and it is so much fun, so stay tuned for that. Ah yes, and it just occurred to me that potholders as well as washcloths are a great way to practice new stitches, so get to it!
