Plastic Canvas Crafts For Hanukkah

Plastic-canvas-hanukkah-craft-3

This week I shared with you a lovely eco-friendly way to make glitter snowflakes from recycled plastic berry baskets, and now while it isn’t in keeping with my usual recycling crafts, I’m sharing some really festive plastic canvas crafts for Hanukkah. And just to clarify, plastic canvas is certainly not eco friendly, but it can be enjoyed for years and years to come, so while buying it does encourage the manufacturing of it, sigh, at least one doesn’t have to be wasteful with it, right? The pleasure of embroidering on plastic canvas is an experience unto itself, and maybe that is in fact how my crafts ended up looking so very happy!

I truly believe that one should indulge in the joy of crafting, and now is a great time to do that, with winter holidays and family time quickly approaching! Spread some love this season with handmade crafts, and if you do that I think buying a bit of plastic canvas is also giving back to the world. Okay, enough said, take a look at these projects and come up with some of your own!

Plastic Canvas Hanukkah Menorah NeedlepointThis Hanukkah menorah needlepoint done on plastic canvas is cute as can be and a great way to try out needlepoint without the comittment of a pillow or large canvas.

Plastic Canvas Jewish Star Ornaments

Plastic canvas Jewish star ornaments are a breeze to make, using two pre-cut plastic canvas triangles.

Plastic Canvas Dreidel Ornaments for Hanukkah

What can I say I just love these plastic canvas dreidels and mandalas, and love the results of using heathered and space dyed yarns for some of the embroidery.

For more plastic canvas crafts check out my archives here. Plastic canvas is actually a great material to use for forming a variety of shapes, (and I’ve still got a bunch in the basement waiting to be used) then again maybe I shouldn’t encourage you?

Shana tova! Can you tell me the size of the dreidels, Stars of David, and menorahs in the plastic canvas? I can’t tell from the pictures what size patterns to cut. Thank you!

Hi Madeline, I wish I could be more helpful but I don’t have these pieces anywhere convenient to measure, they are packed up in the attic somewhere! For the menorah you can count the number of stitches and figure it out that way, the stars were made using pre-cut triangles and the dreidels are about 2 inches wide. Of course figure to the dreidel in accordance with the width of the skinny top piece, whatever that is called. Would love to see what you make, please send photos!
