Make Crafts For L’ag B’Omer!

Lag-B'omer-crafts-simpleI am reposting this round-up of Lag B’Omer crafts from last year, as this year crafting is more important than ever, with our usual holiday activities cancelled due to the need for social distancing. Much of Israel has opened up, but the size of groups is still limited, so the full on festivities that happen in Meron on the holiday (with 1/2 a million visitors!) and in every neighborhood and community with bonfires will not be happening. Nor wil all the kids be collecting all the wood they can find (mostly palettes) for bonfires, which means crafts is the way to build a festive mood, well not with my teens, but with younger kids, sigh. Okay, here is my post from last year, and time is of the essence as the holiday is tomorrow night!

The Jewish holiday of Lag B’Omer is coming up in just another 9 days or so, so now is the time to get crafting for this festive holiday. It is true, I live in Lag Bomer central, just across the valley from Meron, the world headquarters of the holiday, so for us the holiday is truly significant as the whole world (literally) comes to us!  For those living outside of Israel I have noticed that Lag B’Omer tends to be on the relaxed side, so my suggestion is to bring the level of this very holy holiday up a notch by investing in some crafts! Unlike other holidays when we may be really busy with food preparation and getting the house ready to receive countless guests, Lag B’Omer is the time for picnics and campfires and venturing into the forest so go easy on the food preparation and invest in the creativity! Here are a few crafts from the archives to get you started, and I hope to add a few more later in the week, so stay tuned!

Quilled-paper-campfire-craftMy quilled paper bonfire craft is a great way to make a unique work of art and introduce the family to the art of quilling!
DIY-Paper-Arrows-CraftDIY Paper arrows are simple to make and look amazing, as a centerpiece in a vase or even sticking out of a cake or a watermelon!
DIY-Paper-Arrows-CraftRecycled cardboard tube logs are fun way to make a bonfire……(didn’t get there yet myself) is to make some faux logs from cardboard tubes and then add paper flames. With or without the flames, these logs are adorable.

Lag-bomer-kids-bonfire-craftI made this kid’s lag b’omer bonfire craft with my kids years ago, and stlll love it. Give your kids a bunch of recyclables and some twigs and see what they come up with!

That quilled paper art piece looks awesome! Quilling always intrigues me, but I find the idea kind of intimidating.
Though you won’t be able to celebrate in the traditional way this year, perhaps you’ll find an alternative way to celebrate at home, and maybe your teens will surprise you, and do something crafty with you 🙂

These are so adorable! I absolutely love the arrows but the whole collection is lovely. We’ve been doing a lot of crafts using recycled materials in our homeschool. Thanks so much for the inspiration.
