An Abstract Floral Painting On A Recycled Box

Since I shared with you some artful painted gift boxes made from upcycled boxes of all kinds, that have been adding cheer to our home this Chanukah, I just had to include this painted floral gift box that I actually made quite a few months ago. It is not part of the holiday decor, but may just see the light come Spring. That does not mean however that you should not paint flowers in bright colors on gift boxes NOW, as it is a great way to practice painting, a great way to paint without too much pressure, and a great way to force yourself to paint quickly and loosely. After all who would invest hours on a painted gift box? (Well, me maybe, but please don’t!) Okay, lets take a closer look at this floral painted gift box!

You’ll Need:

• acrylic paint (a mix of craft paint and student grade)
• a white paint pen
• an upcycled food box, like a granola bar box etc.

How To:

1. Carefully open the box at the seams
2. Cover the non-printed side of the box with a ground of green splotches, dabs, swirls, dots etc. in several shades of green
3. Once ground of greens is dry, start painting a variety of flowers in bright colors, working quickly and loosely (much easier said than done!)
4. Add some more green blotches around the flowers in a light green.
5. Set aside to dry completely and then add line details and tiny dots with a white paint pen, and either a black paint pen or black paint (which is what I used) to add some black dots if you think it is needed.
6. Great! Now go batch process a bunch, or consider trying this on shopping bags for gift giving!
