Giant Paper Flowers For Any Occasion

Giant-gold-paper-flowerWhen you are in a pinch, and need a quick handmade centerpiece, a huge gift topper, a teacher appreciation gift, or a giant flower to put on your front door, I’ve got the flower for you! This giant paper flower made from heart shaped petals is simple to make and has a fun whimsical look that is perfect for spreading the joy. Ah yes, and with Purim right around the corner a bouquet of these on your table in bright colors would be perfect, or make some to adorn a giant hat or as part of a costume! Okay, as far as a costume goes, I’d make this same flower out of craft foam for durability, and then it could even become a giant flower hat, fun!

I made this gold version for a neighbor’s daughter’s engagement party a month or so ago. The party included a bridal Jewish henna party, so gold was the way to go, and fortunately I had some of this light weight gold textured paper waiting to be made into something, and so, voila a huge bunch of gold flowers was born. Want to make some yourself? Let get to it!

You’ll Need:

  • Light weight paper, even recycled paper like maps and magazine pages can work
  • A second kind of paper for the center, mine is heavy weight crepe paper
  • hot glue gun
  • wire and/or wooden stick

How To:

  1. For the center, fold a long strip of paper in half vertically, and cut fringe. Wrap that fringe around the stem, securing with hot glue.
  2. Cut oblong hearts in three sizes, and starting with the smallest ones, start glueing them around the center, staggering them and increasing in size as you go. Play it by ear regarding the number of petals, but say around 10- 15 will work nicely.
  3. To give a finished look to the underside of the flower, cut long triangles and glue those, point up, around the base to look like the base of a rose.
  4. Enjoy! And check out my category Crafts: Flowers, for a billion more simple tutorials, you’ll love them all.
