Sharp Park Beach Pacifica

Pacifica-Sharp-Park-Beach-With-Mori-PointWhen I was planning our two week family get together in the SF Bay Area, I was looking for a coastal location with the kind of rugged and stunning beaches I remember from my childhood. And guess what, a mere 25 minutes drive from San Francisco, and only a 10 minute drive from the airport, I found just that, in the town of Pacifica! Pacifica is a gem that somehow does not get the attention it deserves, but maybe that is good for us, as one can still enjoy empty beaches and quiet in a location that is so very close to San Francisco! Honestly, I was so very very surprised by this location, and would gladly return! While our rental was not on the water, nor did it have much of a view, it was just a 5 minute walk from the beach, and some wonderful and doable hikes that are truly stunning. Okay, lets first take a look at that beach I mentioned, Sharp Park Beach, shall we?

Pacifica-Sharp-Park-Beach-With-Mori-PointLooking for an empty beach, to run on the sand, dip your toes in the water and enjoy the ocean views, and maybe even a coastal sunset? Sharp Park beach is not a beach for swimming or sun bathing for that matter, as even in July or August it can be quite cold, but everything else? Yes, yes, yes!
Pacifica-Sharp-Park-Beach-With-Mori-PointAt the Southern end of the the beach is Mori Point, shown here, which gives the beach wonderful drama, and a nice spot to sit and enjoy.

Pacifica-Sharp-Park-Beach-With-Mori-PointI love the little pools and rock formations, so wonderful.
Pacifica-Sharp-Park-Beach-With-Mori-PointI really could sit here for hours and listen to the water hit the rocks.

Pacifica-Mori-point-with-beachWhile the beack is empty there are folks fishing, mostly for tiny crabs I believe. And look at that fog lifting!
Pacifica-Mori-point-with-beachWow, a wonderful beach, but do plan to visit Pacifica for a few days, as you may very well encounter a totally fogged in day, also dramatic and a relief from warm summers elsewhere, but not quite as enjoyable as blue sky!

Stay tuned for more photos of the area, and next time you are in San Francisco, or if you live nearby, don’t forget to visit Pacifica!

For goodness sakes – I’d never expect to see a gal from Israel post about Pacific. I grew up and lived in San Francisco and then we moved to Pacifica when the hippies took over back in the 60’s, I went to high school in Pacifica – only I grew up in Lindamar 2 miles from the beach. After HS I did have my first apartment overlooking the ocean in Sharp Park for 2 years.
Now I live 250 miles north.
