A Lunar Corona Was Seen Over Northern Israel Last Friday Night!
Last Friday night after we finished our shabbos meal, my daughter went to a neighbor’s house to visit a friend for a few minutes, and suddenly I hear her calling “Mommy, come quickly, you have to see this!.” I went outside, looked up and saw the most beautiful moon even, a moon encircled by what looked ilke a double rainbow! Truly amazing and not something I’ve ever seen, so I saw that other neighbors were still sitting at their shabbos table, and half barged in to tell them to take a look as well. I startled the mother just a bit, as no one expects a neighbor to run it…

Simple Moroccan Theme Centerpieces For A Jewish Henna Party
A Jewish Henna party? Yes indeed dear readers, Jews from places like North Africa/Morocco, Yemen, and even Iran do have the tradition of a henna ceremony sometime before the wedding. The main difference between the Jewish henna ceremony and the henna ceremonies I’ve seen from India is that the Jewish ceremony does not involve drawing designs, rather a large round mark is made on the hand with the henna, and there are even little round badges with ribbons that are used to tie the henna to the palm as it must be held in place for a while in order to leave a mark. The three hebrew letters that spell…

Indoor Air Pollution and Solutions For Artists And Crafters
This is a sponsored post. Lets face it, craft supplies and art supplies can be filled with toxins, and now is a great time to start thinking about your health and how to avoid filling your home’s air with unwanted pollutants as a result of your beloved hobby, yikes! Even those who don’t have art supplies hanging around are also at risk of indoor air pollution from a variety of sources. Indoor air pollution is not discussed as often as environmental pollution, however, it is just as dangerous and potentially even more harmful than the smog infested air that the average city dweller breathes in when they leave their homes.…

Picture Ledges For Displaying Art In Progress
Since I have now officially been brave enough to share my floral paintings, I thought I’d show you where they sit in our home. Well at least the current favorites, as there is only so much space. I just love these picture ledges from Ikea, and they are great for displaying not just pictures or art works in progress but also little items of interest. If you want to know what holiday is coming up, generally these shelves will clue you in, well except for this year as I’ve been busy learning to paint rather than making Chanukah decorations, which I’m actually really happy about, as i’ve been wanting to…

Fun With Dominos, Spell Your Name!
Sometimes a box filled with colorful dominos is just irresistable, (which is likely why I bought them in the first place!) and so as my son sat on the floor yesterday listening to a story CD, he first set up the dominos in a traditional manner and invited the whole family to witness the crash, and then came up with this lovely set up. If you don’t read hebrew you wouldn’t likely realize that he has spelled his name here, and I love what he did with the last letter, a true work of art! I was just thinking that if I took out the background on the photo this…

Exotic Hostess Gift Idea — Go Moroccan With North African Delicacies And More
Growing up I witnessed first hand that the lovely tradition of gift giving varies greatly from culture to culture. My father had many visitors from around the world, and as I recall the visitors that always, always arrived with interesting gifts were first and foremost from Japan. Our Japanese visitors just wouldn't have dreamed of coming to our home without a gift in hand, and consequently our living room cabinets seemed to be full of interesting curios from Japan and around the world! Fast forward to my life now, and I can tell you that the Moroccan gift giving tradition is alive and well, and I am more than happy…
