Piece Of Cake Pinata Costume!

A piece of cake pinata style costume is cuter than can be, and today my daughter wore her mommy-made extravaganza to school for their Purim costume party. Yes, a cake pinata this size is lots of work, but the results are so adorable that I have no regrets. There are so many ways to go with this costume, and admittedly she could have worn a birthday hat or something on her head, but in the end the twisted braided hair style (that my daughter did herself!) and lots of makeup made the costume complete. Want to make something like this yourself? I'll be happy to show you how, lets get started!

You'll Need:

• foam core, two large sheets, or cardboard
• crepe paper
• craft foam
• ribbon for straps
• hot glue

How To Make A Pinata Piece Of Cake Costume:

1. Using scrap cardboard do a mock up to make sure your sizes are correct. Once you are happy with the sizes and the costume has been tried on, make your slice of cake out of foam core.
2. Use straight pins to attach the corners, and then hot glue from the inside.
3. Cut crepe paper into 2' high pieces, and cut fringe into about 2/3 of the height of the crepe paper.
4. Glue strips of crepe paper to foam core, starting at bottom and working your way up to the top. Do top portion last.
5. Add sprinkles make from craft foam at the end, and I recommend making sprinkles in a few sizes for the cutest results.
6. Add ribbon straps (which I then pinned to my daughter's shirt for stability otherwise the cake kept sliding forward) hot glued to the inside, and your done!

And just saying, investing time in making your kids homemade costumes really is time well spent, as this is what great memories are made of.
