Piece Of Cake Pinata Style Gift Box

Okay my friends, when it comes to creating a knock your socks off kind of gift box, this one really is a piece of cake! Pinata style party decorations using crepe paper are all the rage, and so this idea, namely an upcycled box covered pinata style in crepe paper strips to resemble a piece of cake, is right on target. And best of all, if your box is on the small side like mine, it really doesn't take a huge chunk of time, phew! So next time a nice little box comes your way, save and turn it into the funnest gift box or party favor box ever! I actually made this one to go with my daughter's piece of cake costume for Purim, and this box held treats to give as part of a mishloach manot exchange in her classroom. (On Purim we give gifts of food to friends and neighbors, and the kids get into it too…….)

Even though glueing all those little strips of crepe paper can get a little tedious, I have to admit, I'm hooked, especially when it comes to creating small items, now just gotta get my hands on some of that good quality crepe paper that I can't find in my little corner of the earth at the moment.

You'll Need:

• a box, mine is an upcycled box that held a lovely bottle of perfume
• crepe paper
• hot glue or white glue
• craft foam (for the sprinkles)

How To Make A Pinata Style Piece Of Cake Gift Box:

1. Mark lines to indicate where cake and frosting colors should be placed.
2. Cut crepe paper into 1" or 3/4" (depending on size of box) strips. My crepe paper comes in a roll, so I cut a 1" slice off the roll.
3. With crepe paper folded or rolled into a 2" wide rectangle, cut fringe into about 3/4 of the height of your strips.
4. Using glue, start gluing strips of crepe paper around the circumference of the box, overlapping each row by at least 1/2" or more for best results.
5. I was able to wrap my rows spiral style, which saved lots of time.
6. The top of the box of course was made in short rows, and then little pieces of craft foam were glued on to represent sprinkles.

That is it, too much fun right?
