Chunky And Quick Crocheted Slipper Sock Pattern

Crocheted Chunky Slipper Socks
Chunky  crocheted slipper socks or maybe you'd call them super thick crocheted booties are so much fun to crochet, work up quickly, are a great way to use up odds and ends of yarn, and make a great gift. What more can you ask for? Oh and of course they'll keep your feet warm! Our home gets quite cold during the winter months and we often go to bed wearing socks just like these. I did previously crocheted some crocheted slipper socks for my husband for a birthday/chanukah gift a few years back, and those are still great, and super warm, and much more sturdy, but I love this pattern for the fact that you can whip up a bunch of pairs, and not worry too much about the beauty of the yarn!

And just by the way, this pattern is perfect for a beginner, so grab those little balls of yarn and lets get started!

Crocheted Chunky Slipper Socks two toned

Hook Size: 9mm (I actually used a 10mm, but 9mm is preferable)

Finished size: Very roughly Men's 44-45, but they fit my size US 7.5 foot too. They are fairly loosely crocheted and so they stretch to fit bigger sizes too. For a child's size I would think one strand of worsted weight yarn and a size 6mm hook (or smaller for a smaller size) would work just fine.

Yarn: 1 strand of chunky weight yarn, or 2 strands of worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Supersaver together with other bits and bobs). If you have the time you could make a ball of double strand yarn that is all ready to go. If crocheting with 2 balls, do be careful not to get them all tangled up, as that can happen!

I used 2 strands of a denim yarn for the foot, and a strand of dark blue together with a strand of red for the heel and ankle. Play around with changing the colors where ever you like for fun results, and of course the maximum

Start with a magic circle.

Row 1:  Using color combo A. HDC 12 into circle. Pull magic circle tight and join by slst into top loop of first HDC.

Row 2: Ch 2, HDC 2 into each HDC around. Repeat until end of circle (24, not counting ch2). Join with slst into top loop of first HDC.

Row 3: Ch 2, HDC 1 into each HDC around. Repeat until end of circle (24, not counting ch2). Join with slst into top loop of first HDC. ch 2

Row 4-13: Repeat round 3. (for a shorter foot, make only 10 rows and continue with row 14)

To crochet the heel: (which is a section worked in rows and later joined, you'll see)

Row 14: With color combo B, HDC 1 into each HDC leaving 9 stitches unworked. ch 2 and turn work

Row 15-19: Repeat Round 14, but on row 19 ch1 at end of row (heel size can also be reduced by a row or two if desired to make shorter slipper that is more snug around ankle)

Row 20: sc into half of the stitches in your heel portion. Turn bootie inside out, fold heel in half and slst together the sc stitches to the unworked stitches in that row. Ch2.

Row 21: HDC around the cuff of the slipper. You’ll have anywhere from 24 to 30 stitches. I try to stick to 24 for a more standard cuff, and larger for a looser one. Whatever you’re comfortable with.

Row 18: HDC into each HDC around entire opening (This spans both denim colored portion and red/blue heel portion). Repeat until end of circle. slst into first HDC of round. ch 2

Row 19-22 (or for as many rows as you desire): HDC into each HDC . slst into first HDC of round. ch 2

For a fold over cuff, this number of rows works, but you may want to add a few more……take and look and see what works for you!

To make the ankle cuff band:

Row 23-24: with color combo A. Ch1, sc around and join to first sc with a sl st.

Weave in ends using a large yarn needle. Enjoy those cozy feet!
