Crocheted summer basket with t-shirt yarn

In the mood to crochet something that is so useful you'll want to make a whole bunch to use this summer? Whip up one of these quick crocheted summer baskets to use in your home or at the beach or just about anywhere, and believe me, you'll be so happy you did! Need a fun hostess gift or a way to welcome some house guests? Fill the basket with toiletries or something fun and you're good to go! And assuming you choose some baskets that are on the small side (like mine), you could easily use this idea to make great party favors, teacher appreciation gifts or even to make some great looking storage baskets for your home.

Lets get started, shall we?

Crocheted Plastic Summer Basket with Moroccan slippersDoesn't my new little crocheted basket look just divine with these lovely Moroccan slippers ? (They were a gift from the same house guest that brought all those Moroccan treats that I posted about a while back.) Which reminds me that a basket like this one, only larger would be great for filling with thongs and other beachy shoes for guests to use at the beach house, or fill the basket with slippers if you have a no shoes policy, or fill it with flowers or a plant for a fun summer centerpiece.

You'll Need:

  • a plastic basket with holes or a mesh-like construction
  • industrial t-shirt yarn, or make your own
  • a large crochet hook, mine is 10mm

How To:

When surface crocheting on just about any object, you are basically using the crochet hook to pull one loop through another, which in this case is called the slip sttich. So simple, just hold the yarn on the inside fo the basket, stick your hook down through one of the holes, bring up the yarn, now stick your hook down into the next hole and bring up the yarn and pull it through the loop on the hook. It is truly that simple! No go have some fun whipping up these fun baskets!

Note: If your basket is on the flimsy side, like mine, be sure to crochet really really loosely so that the basket won't pucker, which is what happened the first time around.
