Recycled Cardboard Clothes On A Line Stage Set Or Fun Wall Decor

Cardboard clothes on a line party decor
Make a fun clothesline filled with cardboard clothes as a back drop for a play, or even as decorations for a party, and you’ll get the whole crowd smiling. You can fill the clothesline with items/clothing to match your party’s theme, like shirts with a number for a birthday or anniversary, or maybe even spell out something across a row of cute clothing items, and you’ve got yourself some original party decor, that is just as cute as can be, and the supplies are basically free. I made the clothes line here as a back drop for a bat mitzvah play at a local school and everyone loved the results, myself included, which is not always the case. I think the success of the project was also due to keeping the items very simply drawn and with a very minimal use of color. Ah yes, and the black and white t-shirt yarn clothesline really was a nice subtle touch. Okay, ready to make some cardboard clothes? Lets do it!

Cardboardd clothes on a lineYou’ll Need:

  • cardboard boxes, natural brown and white
  • acrylic craft paint: I used black and red
  • a broad black permanent marker
  • a pencil and eraser
  • a good pair of scissors
  • t-shirt yarn or thick string to use a clothesline
  • wooden clothespins, mine are made for crafting not actual clothes, but worked just fine

How To:

Draw simple shapes of clothing items on cardboard, getting the shapes just right, erase any unnecessary lines or draw on the back of the cardboard. To make lots of socks you only need to draw one good sock and you can use that as a template to make a bunch. Once you’ve got shapes you like, cut them out. For smaller shapes you can do the outlining with a marker, but for larger shapes this becomes way too tedious unless you have a really thick marker. I realized that painting the lines would work the best, and you get that painterly look with the details that I like.

For the red mittens I painted the shape red before adding details.

Enjoy, this project has so much potential!
