Wishing You Wonderful Shavuot!
Dear Readers, wishing you all a wonderful and meaningful holiday of Shavuot! Just in time for the holiday in which we decorate our homes and synagogues with greenery and flowers, my container garden has come alive, and I took a few minutes to photograph my dwarf bougainvillea in bloom to share with you! A close look reveals that bougainvillea actually have tiny white flowers within the colorful magenta (or orange, white, or reddish) petals, reminding us that like the Torah, true beauty comes from within, and just as we received the Torah on a small humble mountain, Mt. Sinai, so too truth can be found in the most humble places!…

Simple Watercolor Ferns For Shavuot!
I shared these watercolor fern paintings with you last year for the Jewish holiday of Tu B”Shevat, though i just had to share them again as they are so simple and perfect for the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, coming up this Saturday night. We fill our homes with greenery for Shavuot, which means flowers, plants, and often the kids go out into the fields and collect anything that seems appropriate. This year the holiday of Shavuot is back to back with Shabbat, meaning we will have to decorate the house on Friday afternoon, ruling out all that fresh greenery, and possibly even flowers, as they just won’t look all that…

Simple Watercolor Leaves On Branches For Shavuos!
I sharee this post last year, and thought I’d share it again, as it is so simple and perfect for the Jewish holiday of Shavuos, coming up on Saturday night. We fill our homes with greenery to remember the lush surroundings on Mt. Sinai where the Torah was given, and I’d say these watercolor paintings are perfect! If you like you can also cut the paintings out and make silhouettes to hang on a garland, which could also be great. With just a few very simpe techniques under your belt the mystery of painting simple and beautiful watercolor illustrations becomes so much clearer! I’ll admit, learning how to paint leaves…

Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday!
Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, and wishing you all a very happy summer! On the Jewish calendar, summer begins after the holiday of Shavuot, which is next Saturday night, so we still have a week to go. Shavuos is the holiday in which we celebrate the giving and receiving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai, and together with eating cheese cake and other dairy foods, we also adorn our homes and synagogues with flowers and greenery. My house is very green year round, as I have become that plant lady, but hoping to add some fun flowers to the mix, if I have time. My daughter is the family baker,…

A Peek In My Sketchbook
Summer is almost here, which means it is time to start a new creative practice, even if just for a few months. I suggest getting a sketchbook and working in it daily, whether it be drawing, painting, writing and drawing, collage, you name it. There is something about a sketchbook that just works for so many, and so while I am still quite new at it, I will take the advice of those much more experienced in the realm of art and illustration. Last summer I devoted three weeks or so to painting and drawing in this sketchbook everyday, and I saw progress. I’ll admit once back to everyday life,…
