A Festive Painted Cut-Out Bouquet For The Front Door!
The Jewish holiday of Shavuot starts on Sunday night, and our front door is ready! I just love painting flowers and cutting them out, as with the water color poppies cut outs, and am also really pleasantly surprised by how wonderful a bouquet of painted flowers can be as well, especially when you free it from the confines of the paper! Of course a bouquet of flowers drawn and then painted, like this one, is all about planning, and execution, so after all that effort, you will want to use it again and again, or even hang it somewhere in a frame, and you should! The more flowers the better,…

Paper Leaves On Real Branches Looks Amazing!
I came up with this simple idea six years ago for my son’s birthday just before Shavuot, and I still love it, so I’m dusting it off to share with you as a fabulous last minute craft that includes a nature walk to collect the sticks! Enjoy. Here is what I wrote back then, this year Shavuot is on Sunday night. Paper leaves on real branches is a super quick craft that results in some fun decorations that can be used for the Jewish holiday of Shavuot or really anytime! I actually made these branches as part of the giraffe birthday party that I’m still in the middle of sharing…

Simple Watercolor Feathers To Paint Today, For Lag B’Omer!
Tonight we welcome the festive holiday of Lag B’Omer, so why not carve out a tiny window of time to paint some watercolor feathers? It is true Lag B’Omer generally brings to mind images of bonfires and bows and arrows, but I’d say feathers, which are used to write the Torah, and certainly the Zohar, originally, are a perfect symbol as well! Plus, feathers are just so fun to paint, and I ended up filling two pages in my watercolor journal with them, and can’t wait to paint more, next time in a mix of rainbow colors or pastels, we’ll just have to wait and see! If I had the…

Recycled Bottle Organizer With Art Scraps
Looking for a fun way to use up some painted paper scraps or unsuccessful art, and get organized? These reycled bottle organizers are just the thing. Of course you could choose to make a paper vase with your artwork, as I did for Passover, but the little scraps? Put those in a pile to make plastic bottle organizers that can also be used as little gift baskets. Whether you choose to punch holes in your bottle and thread some ribbon for a nice decorative touch, or use tape, the results are so much fun and perfect for storing art supplies, though I just realized they’d be equally great on a…

Counting The Omer With Art
Last year, during the week of Passover, when we do not do art, I had the idea of making an art journal for counting the omer. Once Passover ended I quickly prepared pages, 49 plus, one for each day of the Omer, and then began making art on each of the pages. This turned out to be too large a project for that time period, so this year I’m going to finish that journal, and hopefully start another, as I just can’t resist! There is just something about counting the Omer with daily creating that is so perfect! So do give the idea of marrying an art practice with spirituality for…

An Art Journal For Sefirat HaOmer
We are now in the middle of the seven day Passover holiday, which also means we have started a period on the Jewish calendar called sefirat haomer, which means the counting of the omer. This is a 49 day period between the 2nd night of Pesach, and the holiday of Shavuot, when we receive the Torah. There are many deep aspects of the counting of the days during this period, but lets just say that it is a time for character refinement, and for those who wish to delve deeper it is a time to really learn about how the sefirot of kabbalah influence our everyday. For those of us…
