Three Simple Ways To Fix Sketchbook Mistakes
One of the things that always kept me from really delving into a sketchbook practice was that I was afraid of making mistakes, yes indeed! Of course I make mistakes all the time, but in the case of a sketchbook those mistakes would be stuck in the sketchbook forever, as one does not tear out pages! Maybe a bit on the perfectionist side, I know, but what can I do, I’d rather forget about my mistakes, or better yet if I could view the mistakes as successes? You might think that this problem would keep me from ever touching a sketchbook, and it has, sometimes. Other times I just have…

A Peek In My Sketchbook: Learning To Draw Simple Botanicals
I am happy to say that my sketchbook endeavors are consistent, and I am slowly but surely filling up a sketchbook that has been sitting half empty for 20 plus years! I started on May 18th and have now completed 46 pages, phew! Okay the pages aren’t filled with brilliant art, but rather simple botanical sketches and lately some botanical doodles, but I’m really enjoying all the drawing. Because the sketchbook is not heavy paper and I don’t want to end up gluing together pages, I am sticking to light weight pen drawings mostly, though I did recently do a drawing that I colored with a bit of gouche which…

A Peek In My Sketchbook: Learning To Draw Simple Flowers
My sketchbook practice has been neither consistent nor significant, and yet time and time again I find myself wishing that I could just start a daily creative practice in a sketchbook or art journal. On May 18th, 2020, not sure what happened exactly, but the planets apparently shifted and I started sketching in sketchbook that I had started many many years ago is grad schooi in NYC! Looking back I can’t understand why I didn’t spend more time drawing, as my little sketches from years ago are actually quite cute and even good! Big SIGH, though regrets won’t get anyone anywhere, action is required! So I did spend a few…

A Peek In My Sketchbook: Drawing Wild Poppies
A natural outcome for a creative person who loves to take nature walks is to start sketching all that amazing inspiration, a much quicker alternative to painting I might add! So, since I have just shared with you photos of the lovely red poppies native to Northern Israel, I thought I’d share with you the sketches of poppies that I drew in my sketchbook. And not just any sketchbook, but rather one that was only half full of sketches I’d make in New York before moving to Israel, yikes, quite a long time ago. I’m a little sad that I didn’t keep up the creative practice of drawing in a…

If you are like me, you drool at the sight of sketchbooks filled with lovely and creative paintings or illustrations, and you just aren’t sure how to get there yourself. Well I can tell you one thing: dreaming about it won’t get you there, but owning a sketchbook and a few basic supplies and then forcing yourself to open the book and paint might get you there, or at the very least a bit closer! That said, here are some ideas that might be helpful to anyone who desires to start a creative practice but just can’t seem to get started, or find any consistency.

A Peek Inside My New Landscape Format Sketchbook
I just love the idea of a creative practice that involves a sketchbook, or even multiple sketchbooks and while I have yet to actually develop a consistent sketchbook routine, there is always hope? I am starting to realize that patience and persistence are key when it comes to developing yourself or your skills, be it in a creative arena, to not, so rather than sigh about the lack of progress in the landscape sketchbook that I purchased last year, I’ll share with you what I have accomplished, which is certainly a start. Now if I can just figure out how to fill some more pages…….but in the meantime, here’s a…
