Simple Cake Topper Banner In A Pinch!
Wow, what a week, five girls in my daughter’s class got engaged, and our heads are spinning! (Not to worry Mom, your granddaughter isn’t getting engaged anytime soon, as far as we know, but the future is approaching quickly!) When after 3 engagements, the fourth engagement was between the son and daughter of two old friends of mine, we nearly fainted, but there was no time for that, as once the announcement is made there are many preparations that need to happen for the official evening celebration. And now with the Corona restrictions folks are having what we call a “vort” (an announcement) and the actual engagement party (in Israel…

How To Choose Comfortable Heels
This article is about how to choose comfortable shoes, and I just couldn’t resist using some of Andy Warhol’s shoe illustrations for the visuals, as they are fabulous! Andy Warhol is most famous for his pop art Campbell’s soup can art and those cows, but before he became an artist he was actually a successful illustrator between 1953-57 in New York. He was able to make everyday objects very desirable through his illustrations, and from 1955-57 he was the sole illustrator for the shoe manufacturer I. Miller, for whom he made a new drawing each week for placement in the New York Times. The distinctive look of his illustrations is…

Make Crafts For L’ag B’Omer!
I am reposting this round-up of Lag B’Omer crafts from last year, as this year crafting is more important than ever, with our usual holiday activities cancelled due to the need for social distancing. Much of Israel has opened up, but the size of groups is still limited, so the full on festivities that happen in Meron on the holiday (with 1/2 a million visitors!) and in every neighborhood and community with bonfires will not be happening. Nor wil all the kids be collecting all the wood they can find (mostly palettes) for bonfires, which means crafts is the way to build a festive mood, well not with my teens,…

Welcome To Craft Schooling Sunday!
Welcome to Craft Schooling Sunday, thanks so much for joining me here! I hope everyone is well, and staying safe, and using any extra down time for creativity! Time is just flying by and I can’t believe another week has passed, where did it go? Fortunately I have been working on an art journal, so I do see some progress there, but it is very slow going as each page is a work of art……..or at least that is the direction the project is taking. The next journal I start will have to be something a bit quicker, maybe big brush lettering quotes with a few tiny illustrations……then again I’d…

What Is Art Journaling?
I have previously shared with you some of my journal pages from some summer travel journals, both last summer and the summer before. But despite those attempts to include journaling in my life, I had not yet succeeded, nor did I really truly understand the idea behind an “art journal.” Ding ding ding, today as I type this I can finally say that I am beginning to understand the idea of keeping an art journal as well as the purpose of this creative practice! The practice called art journaling involves a mix of whatever floats your boat, and whatever gives you joy to create! Before I was so nervous about…

Ink Blob Figures Creative Exercise For Any Age
With the never-ending school vacation possibly coming to an end within a few weeks here in Northern Israel, I am reminded that now is the time to seize the precious moments with my teens and try to fit in a few more creative activities! We actually created these fun and creative ink blob exercises, (which is a similar exercise to the paint blob pictures here) courtesy of a free video from Carla Sonheim, before Passover, but only now had the time to photograph them. They are truly a perfect example of a creative activity that can be done relatively quickly, or not, and the results can be used in many…
