8 Reasons To Create Art With Oil Pastels
In case you have noticed, there has not been a whole lot of actual “crafting” going on around here, but that is not to say there is no creativity, on the contrary! I’ve been working on my art journey, which at the moment entails a serious commitment to creating 100 5″ x 7″ oil pastel paintings, hopefully sooner than later. (I’m now up to #41, follow me here on Instagram to see the progess!) Yes, I am drawing with the pastels, but when you cover the whole page with them it is called a painting, so I’m painting folks, except it involves drawing and lots of smushing and scraping off…

Counting The Omer With Art
Last year, during the week of Passover, when we do not do art, I had the idea of making an art journal for counting the omer. Once Passover ended I quickly prepared pages, 49 plus, one for each day of the Omer, and then began making art on each of the pages. This turned out to be too large a project for that time period, so this year I’m going to finish that journal, and hopefully start another, as I just can’t resist! There is just something about counting the Omer with daily creating that is so perfect! So do give the idea of marrying an art practice with spirituality for…

Next Year In Jerusalem!
Next Year In Jerusalem! I painted this little Jerusalem cityscape a few months ago, and it is the perfect piece of mixed media art to share with you right now as we push ourselves over the finish line of Passover preparations, phew! See you after we cross the Red Sea, and wishing you all the very best!

Whimsical Botanical Doodle With Color And Tiny Birds!
Right about now is a great time to take a minute and sketch or doodle something that says spring! And what could be more spring than botanicals and mama bird feeding her baby? My instagram followers (follow me here) loved this illustration, so I thought I’d share it with you, my dear blog readers! I am enjoying filling up my A4 sketchbook, though I’ll admit I haven’t added much lately as I’ve been working primarily with oil pastels that I’d have to then tape into the sketchbook and protect with a piece of tracing paper. And that sketchbook is already busting at the seams as I used many of the…

DIY Paper Vase For Spring Makes An Amazing Gift!
When it comes to making a DIY paper vase, there are literally so many ways to go, though for me, the idea of using not successful artwork is a lightbulb moment that happened one evening. I was going to use an abstract pattern to create a vase, and in the same pile as that absract pattern was this sweet landscape that I liked, but didn’t love. As a vase however, it is fabulous! And friends, when you are in the groove of making lots of art, a way to use up anything you wouldn’t want to see on someone else’s wall is like gold! Even when painting on paper the…

A Mixed Media Peacock Painting For Purim!
When Purim is at the doorstep and there is so much to do, and yet this year with no crowd to host the pressure to do it all is somewhat reduced, so you paint a peacock, because it reminds you of royalty and castles and castle gardens, which certainly could be connected to Purim! Okay, that does not mean that there is not loads of bags of groceries and all kinds of preparations to do, but hey, when you are on a mission to be an artist, you know one that actually sells their art, well you have to show up and make art, lots of it, even when Purim…
