Simple Hamsa Cut Out Craft
Craft projects don’t always go as planned, and neither do drawings or paintings even when created by someone experienced! Before tossing something that wasn’t successful in the garbage, do consider if you can reuse it or upcycle it in some way! Paintings done on canvas or paper can generally be painted over, drawings done on light weight paper can be used for origami or any number of paper crafts, and in this case, a painted umbrella and an oil pastel hamsa, both done on watercolor paper but not successful on their respective backgrounds were cut out to use in the future! The wonderful thing about creativity and a mindset of…

Quilled Leaf Sprigs Are Perfect For Shavuot!
I just couldn’t resist sharing this craft from three years ago when I was delving into paper quilling. Now I’m thinking I really need to start doing art with kids again so I can put to use all those quilling supplies that are waiting to see the light of day! Enjoy! Shavuos, the holiday of greenery is coming Sunday night, so why not start quilling some lovely leaves? Paper quilling isn’t one of those crafts that you can whip up quickly, but it is oh so lovely, and can be done in spare moments just about anywhere, so give it a try! These little quilled leaf sprigs look so fabulous…

A Festive Painted Cut-Out Bouquet For The Front Door!
The Jewish holiday of Shavuot starts on Sunday night, and our front door is ready! I just love painting flowers and cutting them out, as with the water color poppies cut outs, and am also really pleasantly surprised by how wonderful a bouquet of painted flowers can be as well, especially when you free it from the confines of the paper! Of course a bouquet of flowers drawn and then painted, like this one, is all about planning, and execution, so after all that effort, you will want to use it again and again, or even hang it somewhere in a frame, and you should! The more flowers the better,…

Paper Leaves On Real Branches Looks Amazing!
I came up with this simple idea six years ago for my son’s birthday just before Shavuot, and I still love it, so I’m dusting it off to share with you as a fabulous last minute craft that includes a nature walk to collect the sticks! Enjoy. Here is what I wrote back then, this year Shavuot is on Sunday night. Paper leaves on real branches is a super quick craft that results in some fun decorations that can be used for the Jewish holiday of Shavuot or really anytime! I actually made these branches as part of the giraffe birthday party that I’m still in the middle of sharing…

A Fun Quilled Paper Bonfire For Lag B’Omer
I have pulled this one out of the archives, because it is truly simple with great results, and right about NOW would be the time to make one, or a few! Call it a quilled paper campfire, or call it a quilled paper bonfire, either way it is a fun craft for all ages and requires only very simple supplies. The wonderful Jewish holiday of Lag B’Omer is coming up on the night of May 2nd, so now is the time to start thinking about some simple crafts to celebrate. The bonfire is one of the major symbols of the holiday (and kids in my neighborhood are now hoarding wood…

Recycled Bottle Organizer With Art Scraps
Looking for a fun way to use up some painted paper scraps or unsuccessful art, and get organized? These reycled bottle organizers are just the thing. Of course you could choose to make a paper vase with your artwork, as I did for Passover, but the little scraps? Put those in a pile to make plastic bottle organizers that can also be used as little gift baskets. Whether you choose to punch holes in your bottle and thread some ribbon for a nice decorative touch, or use tape, the results are so much fun and perfect for storing art supplies, though I just realized they’d be equally great on a…
